If you didn't see the other post, Sam had an xray which showed his coon is full of stool. In the past 3 days he has had: 3 enemas, 2 doses of his miralax, and 2 oz. of prune juice. He has produced about 10 "rocks" and one 2 inch poop. The dr. has ordered the miralax 2/day. I just can't believe he hasn't "exploded". Do I just keep giving the miralax? How much does a child's colon hold?

When we had to give Owen the Miralax it was continued over a course of a months. We gave it to him every day but he also went straight away with it. For him it didn't make no difference in his diarrhea issues though after he was cleaned out, ack.
I would give the GI a call and see what she thinks.
OK so I gave him another dose of the miralax and he got out 5 more "rocks". I guess I will wait to see if we can get some more with the next dose.
Poor baby, he acts like it doesn't even bother him. Maybe it doesn't but it sure looks and sounds like it should.

Are you giving two full caps twice a day? Yea, you can just keep giving it to him, eventually it will soften up, but if there's plenty of hard stuff blocking the way, it takes awhile to get through it all. Emily takes at least 1 full cap a day as her regular dose, but it's often 2 caps a day. You want him to have the runs with every poop for a couple of days, then you'll know he's cleaned out.

When Sebastian would get really backed up it would take several doses to really get him going. Then he would be really loose for a while and we would have to ease back until we found the right dose to keep him regular, but not have the runs.
I would keep giving it to him and like Melissa said, make sure it is full cap fulls until he gets past all the hard stuff.
Good luck!

It's going to pull water into the stuff coming down the pike, but it's not going to soften what's already in the on-deck circle, KWIM? That is, the "rocks" he has blocking the floodgates will need to be passed in order for the softer stuff that the M'lax has been working on to come through. From what I remember in your last post, he was pretty compacted, no?
We had to give it regularly for almost 2 years. You'll tinker with it constantly--some days you'll need to give more, some less; however, once he starts passing stool more regularly, you're going to become a pro at this, promise. Eventually, over some time, you may find you need it less frequently (that's my hope, anyway!). However, for now, I'd keep it up and perhaps call the office to see if they want you to increase the dosage or just keep the current (so you don't wind up with a veritable liquid explosion in a day or two!).

This is a prime example of avoiding anatomical and/or potty mouth terms. Very nicely done, Mary! *golf clap*
Keep giving it...does he need a suppository to "lube up the on-deck circle"? Or maybe another enema to get him going?
Alright, everyone take a moment to tease me for my refusal to use anatomically correct terms to discuss the GI tract and/or common slang to describe feces.
If you think this is good, wait until I have to explain the birds and the bees to my children.
Now, back to you Kerri.
