Fantastic pitcher for mixing formula
Hi all,

I was reading the survey that Lindsay did recently for the tubers and noticed on the question about how you mix your formula that there were such varied responses. I thought that I should chime in even though we're not tubers about the fantastic pitcher that we have to mix our formula. It's the Dr. Browns Formula Pitcher Mixer- http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=3247691. We picked it up at ur local Babies R Us and now couldn't live without it. It mixes the formula in a flash. It's neat, efficient and easy to clean. I like that it has the oz markings molded into it so that they don't get scrubbed off when we wash it. Also, I really like the spout because it has a ridge so that when you pour from it, it rests on the opening of the bottle for precision pouring. The lid is really nice too because it locks on and can be turned to be open or closed, which helps prevent spills if my 4 year old knocks it over when he reaches into the fridge for a snack. Lastly, I like that if the formula's been in the pitcher for a while and I'm making another bottle with it, all I need to do is pump the handle a few times and it's perfectly mixed again with very few bubbles.

We use Vanilla Elecare and I make one big batch per day and keep in in the fridge. As I'm sure most of you already know, using room temperature water makes the powder dissolve much more quickly and thoroughly. I would imagine that this pitcher would be very helpful for tube mommies because just like me, your mixing bigger batches at a time.

I hope this is a helpful tidbit,
Beth

Awesome! I JUST saw one of those thingies at Thanksgiving...my friend Deb has a son w/ mito and eos and he drinks Neocate Jr. for the majority of his cals. She used to sell Pampered Chef stuff and has a few of theirs.

Thanks for sharing!!!

That looks cool.
They started me on this new formula...Vivonex TEN which comes as a power and mixing it is rather difficult.

very interesting...I might just order one. I still haven't found the best way to mix formula. Mine tends to have too much air and clumps.

Re: Fantastic pitcher for mixing formula
I'm sorry that I didn't post about this pitcher months ago. I guess I just assumed that you all had it in your kitchens because it is so rare that I'm the one giving advice, I'm usually the one taking it!

Chris- I must tell you that I think this pitcher will solve your problems. I think it's as near to perfect in design as it can be. Also, I'd recommend mixing at least 1/2 a day to a whole day's worth at a time. I learned from a post on IRD long ago that premixing your formula and giving it time to sit in the fridge helps it to have a smoother, thicker consistency, closer to RTF.

I think my last tidbit of advice on all of this is to weigh your formula powder instead of counting out scoops. I have a digital kitchen scale that measures in grams. Just scoop out the amount you would normally use into a measuring cup that's been zeroed out on your scale. You'll then know how much to use each day. It'll save you tons of time and brain power and it'll be more accurate.

-Beth

That is a really neat pitcher....I make his formula in batches of 20oz. this would be handy.

Re: Fantastic pitcher for mixing formula
Beth I just wanted to let you know I bought this pitcher and I LOVE IT!!! I just recently started my dd on formula (I'd been pumping) and for the first while I was using my husband's protein shakers to mix it. Let me tell you, there was a ton of air and bubbles that way so when I saw your post about this pitcher I went right out and got it. It is so easy and no more bubbles! Thanks for the suggestion. Hope Brandon is doing well on his new med schedule.
