Re: Questions about weaning off PPI
The best way to wean off a PPI is to wean onto an H2. Then let them either out grow the H2 dose gradually (H2s are weight sensitive) as they grow or you can gradually take them down watching for symptoms. It's easier to come off an H2 than it is a PPI, and eventually you could just give an H2 as needed.
If I was going to wean I would first cut one dose of the PPI down and add an H2 in between PPI doses, eventually, once the PPI is cut to nothing the H2 would be given instead. I would do it slowly in weekly intervals.
Then eventually start cutting the second dose of PPI until it is replaced by an H2.
I'm not too familiar with nexium. Is it a compound? tablet? powder? Not sure how to cut it down, because I don't know what form it comes in
