They are in the same class of medications and really, basically, do the same thing. They shut off some of the proton pumps that produce acid in the stomach. However, like any medication, people respond differently to each one. We had much better results with Prilosec, but many people here have great results with Prevacid.
Unfortunately, the only real way to know which will work in your situation is trial-and-error. Has your doc prescribed either one of these?

Yeah Erins been on Prevacid for about 3 months now. Recently she also had Zantac added back on after a nasty relapse. I am pretty sure most of relapse was caused by stage 2 fruits because once those where stopped she did get much better but still not the best she has been and now for the last week or so she doesnt really want to eat. She acts very hungry but after 2 or 3 bites she whines then refuses. She is drinking formula cereal mix still fine. Other than eating times she is very happy and playful except she will whimmper in sleep 2-4 times a night but never wakes from it. We have GI appt on the 24th so I am just collecting info to see whats what. Hard really to tell if its anything related to reflux or maybe just a stage or maybe teething. She has been a constant big time drooler for months before bottom teeth finally popped out so dont known if more are on their way right now. I was talking to another mom and she brought up that her Ped said prilosec was way better and I thought they were basically the same so I thought Id ask here.

Yeah, for some kids, one is way better than the other. You know, what you're describing very well *could* be related to teething. One way to know would be to try giving teething tablets or Tylenol/Motrin (Motrin can cause stomach upset but is recommended by some docs because it's an anti-inflammatory and can help more with swollen/sore gums) and see if she does any better. If that works, you'll have your answer. If not, it *might* be worth trying a medication switch. Does that make sense?
