We saw the GI today. Tucker seems to be doing a little better today (he FINALLY pooped after a week of just smears). I think that has a lot to do with his retching, although GI thinks he's simply absorbing formula differently now that he's on the pump. He has only retched 2x since he pooped though, so I think I'm right. ;)

The good news is that Tucker is up to 13 lbs 2 ounces--YAY he broke the 13 lb mark. (11 months old today).

The GI suggested that we may want to try Zofran for the retching if it continues as it has been, but says we are in "unchartered territory" because there is no real research on it's effects on infants. I took it when I was pregnant and it was a lifesaver b/c my morning sickness was unbearable. Does anyone else use it for their little retchers?

We are still waiting to hear back from the children's hospital re: Tucker's appt up there, but we think it's going to be on 3/7. I'm hoping we can get through these 3 weeks without anymore set-backs.

My 3 year old uses zofram for retching and nausea when she has a stomach bug because she obvously can't vomit---it is our miracle drug, it works within seconds! I personally don't hesistate to use it, we didn't go through a second fundo just to have a retching spell undo it!

For retching on a regular basis she has been on nortriptyline--not for infants, 2 years is the youngest I have heard it being used and still then at 2, 3 and 4 years it is very questionable. Neurontin is also used in combination with nortriptyline but the two together made my daughter too loopy. Both relax the gi tract, just the one is fine for her. My daughter cannot live without it to be totally honest. The improvement on it is so dramatic that I couldn't not give it to her. So the nortriptyline takes away the general retching and painful spasms she had throughout her gi tract after the fundo, and the zofram we use during a virus or flu that causes retching. Hope that helps!

I had to take zofran as well during my pregnancies just to get thru the day, do not know what I would have done without it. Sam does not wretch too much--but when he is constipated I do notice that he does wretch some. Maybe if you get that under control it may decrease some. Hope the Zofran gives him a break.

My son (now 2) had his 1st fundo at 10 months, his second at 18 months. We've used Zofran on him after both surgeries. It's not well studied in children, but every once in a while seems to an acceptable way to use it. It works soooo well. It's actually an anti-nausea drug that is primarily used (or at least created) for chemo patients to help them combat the nausea from those treatments. I wouldn't be scared to use it, but it you find that you're using rather regularly, you might want to revisit the gi about it!
Good Luck!
