my son is now 12 months and we have taken him to the gastro pedi and we have my son on prevacid they may want to wean him but i think it's not a good idea to take him off meds and the OT that saw him also was concerned about my son. his tongue is immature and he pushes it far back when we put food on it. also he refuses to eat if we give him tablefood he turns his head or just keeps food in his mouth for a long time and doesnt know what to do with it. he has motor delays as well wont put his feet down to stand and they are giving us a PT evaluation as well. he hates loud noises or any noises if something happens he starts screaming and if hes in highchair he doesnt stop screaming and refuses to eat. he hates clothes after a bath i lay him down and he throws a complete tantrum, i have a hard time controlling him. he is always upset and sometimes kicks me and hits me. he kicks his sister as well. she may have autism she is PDD-NOS so the therpists even say it may be possible for her brother to have that but the dev pedi he has doesnt seem to worry. i took it upon myself to get him evaluated and the dr.s arent helping me, and i am ready to change dr.s, since the dr just said well he has to get used to sounds and clothes etc yeah buddy you come here and try to take care of my kid and see how much these things are bothering him. he is overly sensitive to noise etc. anyway he is getting therapy and that's the best thing we can do for him. I just worry about his nutrition and getting enough food since he refuses everything and wont pick up anything to eat still he has no desire to do that. just wanted to write a post to update about my son.

The therapy is certainly a good start. You may also wish to look into supplementing the feeds if you haven't already. Did you already do the checklist that's listed as a stickie in this forum? Sorry I don't have more time right now. I'm running out the door to pick up my son. Please let me know if there's anything else you need.

It is a great start that you are getting the therpary for your son now. Then maybe if he is austic like his sister then you will have the help a head of time. I also have an austic child and it can be hard at times.

It sure does sound like there are sensory issues at play here. My youngest son was a whirling dervish for the longest time when it came to having diaper changes and for getting dressed. We found that if we put a pillow up under his head when lying him down it actually helped because he was refluxing.
My middle son has lots of sensory issues and is fine motor skills challenged. To this day he has real problems with noise and yet he himself is loud. I read books on sensory intergration and they help quite abit to see what your child is facing. The best book is " The Out of Sync Child" and is well worth the read if you can pick it up. If it is linked with autism I do hope your ped will get you the help you need. The frustration is incredible and it sounds like you do need some help.
Has he had a swallow study done? If he is still stuck at the protective stage with his tongue (pushing food back out) then he needs an OT for certain in order to deal with that. At 12 months of age he should not be doing that.
Doctors who say he just has to get used to it are infuriating. They are the same ones who say they will eat when they get hungry and that they are a good weight so what more do you want. Tell him some "quality of life" would be nice. And then get another ped who will help you.
How often are you seeing the PT? And what goals have they set out?

thanks everyone for responses. we are getting a PT evaluation soon so i will keep you all updated. I will try the pillow cause maybe he is in pain when i lay him down. I know he get's very angry if he is trying to crawl towards something like a wire or cord and i grab him to get's his clothes on his kicks smacks anything and screams so loud and wont let me dress him. anyway no they didn't do a swallow study but do i ask the therapists for him to get that done? my daughters one therapist mentioned that to me other day. anyway his tongue goes far back in his mouth when we try to place something in his mouth. he screams the whole time in therapy in highchair and at home he screams we have to put food in his mouth he either refuses and looks all around the room (which he does when he is hungry as well) but he has no desire to pick up food he will just sit there and look around at everything else going on all the noises. the tablefood he takes forever to chew like one piece will stay in his mouth for 10 minutes. and the babyfood has to be thin he will eat that.

Shannon, maybe we can talk too since your one child has autism, maybe we can relate to some stuff our kids do. how old is your child with Autism? My daughter is a little over 2 years.

Nicki, I would love to talk to another parent about thier child with austism. I know how hard it is to have an austistic child and worry that the other child maybe be austistic as well. My son was diagnosed just before his second birthday. You can Pm me andwe can talk! It will be great!

Did you know that we also have a forum for kids with special needs as well? You can hang out wherever you like on the boards but I thought you might like to know that. Shannon will be a great help for the autism.
Keep us updated.

I am sorry it did not go through for you. Often our posts will time out if it is a long post. Could that have been the case? I do it all the time as I am seen to be a tad "long winded" lol!
