my son (12 months) refuses any food mostly tablefood he was looked over by an OT today since i decided to get him evaluated on my own and the dev pedi thought nothing was wrong with my son. thank goodness i went with my instinct cause my son is having problems with reflux and on top of that refusing foods and turning his head away and throwing tantrums. Since he was born he was sensitive to noise lights clothes etc and along with that eating issues and spitting up. he is on Prevacid twice a day and they want to wean him off in awhile but even the therpists dont think it's good to wean him off but it's my choice and dr's and i am thinking same to keep him on prevacid to help him. he always smells like vomit after he eats or has sticky hair cause he was laying in spit-up- vomit after a nap. they said his tongue is really immature he pushes his tongue far back when they put food on it. and he has delays and will need physical therapy his motor skills are delayed. his sister may have autism and they are saying maybe he also may be on spectrum somewhere it's possible. I have my hands full 2 small kids with special needs. anyway just wanted to write my post about my son.

Hi, Nicki!
My 13mo daughter does not eat table food either although she eats stage 2 fruits and veggies and baby cereal quite well. She is quite the tantrum-thrower, too. Her gross motor skills are on track (not yet walking but close) but her expressive speech is slow/delayed. I see some autistic characteristics in her with my junior doctor degree. I plan to address these concerns at her 15mo check-up in April.
The test you asked about is called an endoscopy. A very small camera is run down through the throat to view the esophagus and upper part of the stomach. Catherine had this done in early January. It's a minor procedure involving brief light sedation.

hi there! thanks for response and i will mention that test to his reg pedi to see if we can get that done. i am glad some people can relate to my situation.
Hi! My dd is 15 months old and still primarily eats baby food (stage 2)--and usually only after epic battles in the high chair...
We see a feeding specialist, who has helped immensely. She does not have any oral motor deficiencies--she has just developed an aversion because she associates eating with pain.
Because you already have your hands full with 3 kids, will you be able to get home-based services (PT) for your son? You might want to look into this. Early Intervention is a great service available to everyone that does both home-based evaluations and therapy.
Ack--my dd is screaming in her crib. I'll post more on EI later (if you're interested). :-)

Hi -- All too often, doctors don't hear us complain that our children don't eat, as long as the child continues to grow. This was our problem. I can only assume doctors hear about picky eats all too often, and they don't realize that some of us truly have kids who will not eat.
Well, I'm glad you've finally taken your son to someone who recognizes the delays that are affecting his eating. I hope you start seeing some good results very soon!

Hi Nicki and welcome! It's a struggle having one child with special needs. You must be totally exhausted with two of them. We've been down the road of having a non-eater, feeding therapy, physio, occupational therapy, speech therapy, genetics....I know it's tough. Anyway, we have another mom with an autistic child here. If you start a thread with the title Autism in the Other Conditions forum, I'm sure she'll see it.

Sounds like the ladies have covered it! I can't imagine what you're going through with your babies. I hope your answers are just around the corner! My 10 mo. old, Noah, just had an endoscopy, and it was a very simple, smooth procedure.
