View Full Version : Hello
liz_0710 02-11-2006, 06:57 PM Hi everyone. Thanks for the welcome. I am so happy to have found this site. I wish I would of found it 11 months ago. Our daughter Karina was diagnosed with reflux at 3 weeks old and has been on zantac since. She will be a year in 3 weeks. Solids are the big issue at the moment especially protein. She doesn't seem to be able to tolerate it. If anyone has had the same problem or has any suggestions my eyes and ears are open.
Thanks again,
Liz
AndrewsMommy 02-11-2006, 07:08 PM Hi Liz and Welcome...
I think alot of the kiddies on here have solid feeding issues, so any questions you have go ahead and ask and I am sure one of us may have the answer.
I never had problems with Andrew eating solids. He eats all day long, 3 meals and snacks in between, he just pukes everything up. But since the change in his meds, he is starting to do much better *knocking on wood*
Again Welcome:iconbigg:
sarahh 02-12-2006, 01:04 AM Hi there Liz and welcome. Be sure to post your feeding questions in the "feeding solids" forum.. you will no doubt get more replies there! :-)
OwensMom 02-12-2006, 02:46 AM Hello and welcome Liz.
We are having a hard time with solids too, Owen seems to react to almost everything. Currently we are doing a food log to see what foods he can't have. Dairy is a big "no,no" in this house, if he has some he'll throw it all up again within minutes of eating it.
liz_0710 02-12-2006, 07:14 AM Thanks for the welcomes. I will check out the feeding forum. Karina's spitting up is not bad, but when we give her protein she will wake up every hour during the night crying in pain.
Leigh 02-12-2006, 10:57 AM Welcome!:iconbigg:
I am going to move this into our feeding forum for you and you will likely get more responses. The ladies here are second to none and armed to the teeth with experience and knowledge.
sixdogssixcats 02-12-2006, 11:25 AM Liz,
What do you mean by "protein?" Do you mean feeding plain meat? Your baby has been getting protein since birth either in the form of formula or breastmilk so protein in general can't be the problem. If you share some specific examples of your observations, we might be able to relate to someting in our own experiences that would be helpful to you.
My 13mo daughter does not eat meat, but that's because I haven't given it to her. She has many issues in addition to reflux, and she still gets most of her nutrients from formula. She eats stage 2 fruits and veggies and baby cereal very well. I don't see a need for meat in her diet at this point and think it would be too harsh on her volatile guts.
Welcome to the group!
Janette 02-12-2006, 11:40 AM Hi Liz and welcome! I've been to your beautiful province and just loved it!
My son is nearly 4 yo. and we've dealt with tonnes of feeding problems during that time. Protein can be pretty difficult b/c of the texture, and also because it takes longer for it to digest. Fatty meats like bologa have caused the most vomiting here. Have you tried a protein powder from the pharmacy?
liz_0710 02-13-2006, 08:13 AM What I mean by protein is meat. The only meat I have tried is chicken. I prepared it myself by baking a chicken breast and then putting it throught the food processor to puree it with water. She will eat it, when its mixed with veggies. She does not vomit but gets very bad belly pains about 12 hrs after she has eaten the chicken. I was thinking of trying beef this week to see if its only the chicken or all meats.
Thanks
Hi and welcome! Hmmm...my dd is now 15 months old and feeding solids is a *major* issue around here...
I saw that your dd has belly pain, etc when given meat. Is she also gagging/vomiting when eating it? Is texture an issue, too, or is it just that the meat makes her ill afterward?
Does she have this reaction to any other foods?
:-)
 You just said she doesn't gag/vomit when eating it. I should get an award for carefully reading posts today...
Hmmm. Has she been tested for any other allergies/intolerances or does she react to any other foods like she does chicken?
sixdogssixcats 02-13-2006, 10:45 AM Have you tried commercially prepared baby foods that have just a minute amount of meat in them? My daughter does eat stage 2 vegetable/turkey and sweet potato/chicken but only a brand called Mom's Organic. She turned her nose up at the veggie/beef conconction.
Those might be easier on her stomach since the consistency is probably much smoother than what you can make in a food processer. Maybe start there and work up to homemade meat.
Becky in NM 02-13-2006, 01:25 PM Hi! Just wanted to add my welcome though I don't have any advice to add. If we could manage to get food into Daniel's mouth, he didn't seem to have any problems with an upset stomach. He was a gagger-retcher.
