I wondered if any of you have given acidophillus or any other probiotics to your little ones. Asher is on Erythromycin for suspected DGE and his stools have become even more loose than usual. I know antibiotics can throw off the balance of friendly bacteria in the digestive tract and I always take acidophillus tablets or eat lots of yogurt when I take them. I wasn't sure about using them for him though. What do you think?

I know that overseas they make formula with probiotics in them, but none here that I know of. I saw this in some parents or parenting magazine. I give Sam yogurt (Yo-Baby) and have since he was around 8-9 months old. Hope this helps!

Amy we take Yakult, it is a probiotic drink. It was recommended by the ped for my eldest due to asthma and ear infections. He hasn't had an ear infection since and his asthma is very under control, touch wood. I did ring the manufacturers though and they said not to give it to Parker till one- I think cause it contains milk. Both my boys are cows milk intolerant and able to take it- weird! Both have one a day now and I think it is great. If I ever get a tummy ache now, I take one and it settles it almost straight away!
You can also get powder and mix it, I don't know from what age though

Good point Sarah. Our fromula we used made by Nestle has probiotics in it- never thought of that, I suppose they can have it young!

I know that some moms give their babies baby-dophillus (Becky?)... Good idea about using probiotics with the erythro!

Emma has been taking a daily antibiotic for her kidney issues for about a month now (our ped put her on it). I plan on talking to her kidney specialist next week about probiotics at her appt..

Emma is not having loose stools on the antibiotic, but I want to check with him to see if he recommends the probiotic or not. Emma was down to 0-2 nightwakings and then we added the antibiotic a month ago and we're back to 3-4 a night. It makes me wonder if it's hurting her stomach.

Grrrr.....:hairpull:

Yes, our feeding spec suggested baby dophilus when Daniel was on six weeks of antibiotics for the ear infection that wouldn't quit. He still got diarrhea eventually, but he never developed a diaper rash. Our Whole Foods had two or three choices of a baby dophilus.
