I convinced Asher's GI to let us try Erythromycin before trying Reglan and we are picking it up and starting it tomarrow. For those of you who have GERDlings on Erythromycin or have in the past, how long does it take to start to work? Keep your fingers crossed for us that this helps him. I insisted that Reglan would be a last resort and only after testing to confirm DGE. (although it's pretty obvious that he has it)

No experience with Erythromycin, but I just wanted to say:
You go girl! :smt038 You're being a great advocate for Asher. I love to hear when doctors actually listen to a parent's requests. That's wonderful!

Let us know how the Erythromycin works.

Thanks Amanda, I apparently need to do the research for the "professionals". Doesn't it drive you crazy when you have to tell these doctors what your children need? We should get paid for all the work we do researching and advocating for our little ones!

No experience with erythromycin here. Catherine was on bethanecol for many months, but it made no difference whatsoever so we stopped it.

No experience w/ this, either; however, Amanda took the words right out of my mouth... :iconbigg:

You're right--you should get paid for all the work you do to advocate for Asher!

We tried Erythromycin. Our GI instructed us to start Daniel off with just 1/3 of a dose and work him up gradually so we could make sure it didn't upset his stomach too much. And it did. We never got to the full dose before abandoning it.

Nathan was on erythro for about six months... We noticed a difference after about a week.

I hope it helps!!! Crossing my fingers and toes!

Sam had really good luck with the erythro, however, we went off it for a few days per dr orders and he got pneumonia so we too abandonded it as well. Hope it works well for you!

Hello, we took it 3 times a day for a long time. I think you are right in trying it before Reglan. Hopefully, it will help you guys. Good for you for asking!

Hi-
Glad you are able to try erythromycin. Sarah has been on it for awhile. It took about 1 week to see an effect. At first it upset her tummy and she had increased vomiting but after 1 week that had settled and she started eating more. The only problem we have had with erythromycin is that the effect doesn't last forever and we are at the point where it is no longer working. I think there bodies get used to it and it stops being effective.

Exactly how I feel! It seems we all need to educate ourselves to the nth degree in order to take charge of our medical care of our children.

Kudos to you for getting that job done!

No experience with erythromycin for DGE here though.

I am moving this thread to the DGE forum.

My son has been on it for 3 days and I already see a difference. He is eating so much more, I have to assume it is the med. He hasn't had any side effects. My daughter was only on it for 3 days, it gave her bad cramps so we had to discontinue it.

Oh, that is good news, thanks for sharing that, it seems I only here how its not helping!!!
