Just curious - but is all of the low-fat notations there because fat is one of the things that causes heartburn/reflux? I wasn't sure. Usually they encourage you to keep kids on full fat milk, etc. until they're two. I'm working with my son on babyfood, but he wants solid real food REALLY bad. I'm tempted to try cheerios or something, but afraid of the wheat. Do you ahve an opinion on a good first finger food? He's 7 months and desperate to grab any food that we're holding. any input you'd have would be great! thanks. :)

Honestly at 6 months we started giving my daughter overcooked veggies, overcooked pasta and Gerber Puffs were a big one too. Anything soft that she could gum! :) Banana is a good one too. Anyway, she actually went fully to table food at 7 months (besides her baby cereal in her bottle and in the morning).

If you think about it, babies in other countries dont have jarred baby food to eat, they eat what the family eats just mushed up. So starting at 6 months my Dr told me my daughter could have ANYthing we were having as long as it was soft (that if she swallowed it whole she wouldnt choke).

I'm not quite sure about the fat but if you think about it... greasy high fat foods usually DO cause people heartburn... even those without GERD so I could imagine that might have something to do with it.

I hope this helps and good luck... start out with some nice soft veggies and pasta and let him pick those up! :) You might want to still get in a bit of babyfood while he is starting out so he gets what he needs but for a snack let him practice with some other foods!! :)

Apple juice?!?!?! Apple juice is the absolute worse for Mag and was actually on the list of food to avoid from her peds GI.

Lena... it doesnt say food NOT to give heart burn... just says little potential! :) Mags must fit in that "little" area!! Poor girl!

Can she drink any juices? Pear? White Grape?

She drinks water flavored juice. LOL Or the 10% juice boxes and even then only once a day. Apple juice makes her curl up in a ball and cry. Orange juice is the absolute worst though.

you know, I don't have heartburn/reflux and even I can't drink juice!! :) Thanks for the tips. My dd loved the gerber puffs. I totally forgot about them. I think I'll grab some at the store tomorrow and see what he does with them. Those should be pretty safe. He's dying to try food, so I have to let him have something. :)
