I was wondering what you guys think are good and not-so-good solids for babies. I have a limited menu for Cady and am afraid to branch out. Is there a list anywhere of definite no-no foods and safe foods for refluxers?

I think there is, somewhere *headscratch* I know that some can react to certain foods and others not also. I think major no-no's would be carbonated beverages and citrus, tomato pastes... for sure.

Judy,
Emma cannot have milk or soy so her list is even more limited, but I can send you what Emma will eat. If you get desperate (;)) let me know!

Thanks Michele for the list, parker also has a limited variety and I have started giving him just one jar food cause I know he doesn't have any effects from it.

No problem... I also made it a sticky in the forum so it's always there when we need it! :)

Good luck guys!

Thanks for asking this question Judy, and thanks to Michele for the list. Even though most of those things are off limits to Noah, I like to keep in mind what will trigger his reflux. Who am I kidding? He doesn't eat. Okay, I'm leaving this thread and NEVER COMING BACK!!! (sorry...vent...)

Judy,
I really do think it's different for ever baby.

Like Eric did wonderful with pears, but sweet potatoes were torture. I've talked to a few Mom's here that say just the opposite.

So you have a few "safe" foods already. The best thing to do is just do it. Just take it slow and only give a little of the new food the first day, a little more the second day, and so on. If the food makes her reflux flare or if it's "iffy" put it on the try again later list. There are certain obvious no no's
here's what IRD has

Scroll down to the bottom and there's a list put together by PAGER of foods to avoid.

I am thinking of introducing a solid, like rice cereal to my refluxer to see if it helps keep her milk down...but just read that it might cause more problems. What is the best thing to introduce first? I am breastfeeding.

We used rice cereal first and didn't have any problems- I don't know about others though- you can always try and see

We did cereal first too and for a while it seemed like it was the only thing he could handle. The GI took him off it though (he could've been reacting, but his reflux was so bad who would've known) and now he's just on Neocate and rice products at 14 mos and doing great! He had problems w/ just about everything so it's trial and error. I would hold off on solids though till you get the reflux under control. If it's not, there is no way to tell a lot of times if he's reacting to the solids etc as Evan's main symptom was reflux. Well, w/ him already refluxing, we never saw it! Anyways, here's a good chart about when to introduce foods based on allergicness (I don't think that's a word). lol http://www.hallpublications.com/title2_sample2.html
