This morning for breakfast Owen had some pancakes with diced peaches and pears. Well at around lunchtime he pooped and it was soft, little mucous but what really puzzled me is that the peaches came out the way he ate them, undigested. Anybody ever experience that with their child? Any ideas why that happened. I'm clueless and don't know what to think, he always has something new that he is throwing my way. :smt102
I have no idea why this is...sometimes when Bethy eats peas (rarely can I get solids down her gullet, but on the rare day when I do...) they appear to be undigested in the diaper.
Does Owen always have mucous, though? Usually when Bethy gets ahold of a dairy product, her diapers are full of it. :-(

I think it's normal for peas, corn and foods like that but I just don't know about the peaches.
On rare occasions he has normal stools but otherwise he is either constipated or has mucous in it.
I'm writing it all in the food log for his ped to see.

I don't think it is a problem if it is a one off, but you are doing a good thing writing a log just in case!

Corn and peas do come out basically the way they went in, but not peaches.
Having said that I would say to watch for signs of illness now. Often children who are brewing a stomach virus will do this with many foods. Curran does it with the oddest of foods and sure enough it is a stomach virus thing.
Still, good to log it down. Give it a break for a week and then try them again to see if you get the same funkiness if no virus shows up.
Meanwhile, I will go and snoop about peaches.:iconbigg:

We've seen peas and 1/2 pieces of raisin in Em's. I've also seen chunks of carrot. No peaches, though.
I asked our ped about it once (the carrot dices still being practically whole) and he said that when kids have reduced acid the food doesn't break down as much?? Not sure if that's true or not.

Happens al the time here!
Eric doesn't chew, so that's why it comes out whole in his case.
Does Owen "chew" with his mouth closed? If he does, then he's not chewing either. I read that kids don't learn how to chew with their mouths closed until like over the age of 5.

It seems like he is chewing his food before he swallows, I'll have to pay more attention next time he eats.
Gosh I just hope it's not a stomach virus, don't need anymore in this house right now. He looks fine and is playing in his playpen right now. I'll just keep a close eye on his behavior and see what happens.
