At age one, your child should:
Recognize his or her name (Catherine - yes)
Understand "no" (yes)
Understand simple instructions (yes)
Imitate familiar words (no)
Wave good-bye (no)
Play pat-a-cake (no)
Use "mama" and "dada" and several other words (none)
Make the "sounds" of familiar animals (no)
Give a toy on request (yes)
Laugh a great deal (no)
Hear well and discriminate between sounds (yes)
Show a great deal of affection; makes noises and pats parents affectionately (no)
Placesa a cube in a cup on command (yes)
Scribbles imitatively with a crayon (never tried)

We have started sign language with Iain and he is learning "more" right now. I have his speech evaluation to post from our private SLP. He is around a 1 year old level.
