I am sure Katy will chime in here with my answer of "I don't know"....but any thoughts on what to do when a 2nd fundo has broken down and the problems that referred you to both fundos in the first place have reoccured????? And BTW my child is not considered to be a good candidate for another!!!
It seems common place for kids to reflux past their fundo. So please tell me why we bother?!

Well I can come on in first and say I do not know. I do not have any experience with fundos, but I can tell that they are not a "sure thing" by any stretch.
What is the problem with this second one and why can they not do another? I guess there is only so many times they can do it?
I am sorry to hear that it is not working. {{{hugs}}} What is the game plan when that happens?

Well Carla my dear that is the million $ question around our house. It really depends on how the wrap has slipped. You see Noah insists on slipping his wraps by herniating his stomach up into the esophagus to a point where he will start to tolerate close to no foods at all. With Noah's history so far all of his wraps have been considered emergency surgeries. Will Noah ever have a 5th done ?? Not exactally, there's not much room left for him as far as fundo;s go so he would most likely when needed have a more drastic surgery. Usually 2 fundos is the limit and after that they just medicate and pass the kid off back & forth to different Dr.s around here. I am sure your learning that all ready. I hear it all of the time down here. As long as shes not losing weight YET and isn't losing a lot of sleep ect. She should tolerate the wrap not working anymore thebest she can. I know alot of adults who have had the surgery done and wanted to die from the discomfort of the wrap and once there wraps gave out they did not go back and have it redone they choose to just medicate instead. I can't remember does your family have a history of esopageal cancer ??? Our has a rather large history of it with males in our family so we are a bit tense over Noah always having severe esophagitis with lesions even post fundo as it can be a leading factor to esophageal cancer. We have a total of 7 male members in the family who have or have already passed away from it. From my grandfather down through my uncles, brother, & cousins.

LOL, OK, I think the reason to try it is because when you have child refluxing severely for so long you will try anything to get rid of the side effects. That being said, it helps alot of kids, It has helped mine tremendously. I would do it again just for the time we have had if he changes tomorrow but for us it has been worth it. Now, if and when he needs reflux meds again, which he doesn't right now, I will just give him the meds and go from there. What else can you do? He is much healthier because of it, we didn't do the surgery to stop him from having GERD, he will always have that.
Now there are some horror stories (like Katy and Noah, sorry Katy!) but for the most part I am learning and meeting many who have had success with it or atleast it has helped in many ways once over the hump of recovery. And, by no means, am I saying I don't know many who have had problems or who don't regret it. I don't know that we would have a second one done, because if it doesn't work the first time why try again? But, most times people are told after the first one if there are problems it NEEDS to be done again for corrections so after that it can be a mess and you don't know what to do and are trying to trust the docs...:banghead: Which we all know is frusrtrating and sometimes even not best.

I'll chime in more later because I have to go but I want to say for the record that I actually don't regret the fundos because it did improve her overall quality of life. I wish it lasted longer but the second lasted longer than the first, so at least it was better not worse. We did not have ANY sinus or breathing issues after this past fudno for an entire year. It definitely improved that A LOT--literally one extreme to another. But she has what is called "visceral hypsersensitivity" which is just a fancy word for hypersensitive nerves in her GI tract and the fundos really wreck havoc on that. So she gets better with her sinuses and asthma but gets worse with pain management. We fear what another would do to the overall state of her stomach, digestion, and further irritability to the nerves there.
There should be a smiley with a person sitting between a rock and a hard place....if there was, I would place it right here!

Carla, boy do I wish I had the magic answer to your questions. I have three kids that have had fundos and the one has had it twice now. All three of my kids are refluxing past their fundos and showing signs that lead us to the fundo in the first place.
I wouldnt change anything that we have done because the fundos have helped but I wish that they were the cure all. I do wish you luck and hope that you get some answers and help.

Agreed, it has helped us tremendously but not a cure for sure.
