Hi we went to the GI today and she said to give Connor Lactulose. Is anyone familiar with this?

Yes, we started with it a few months ago after a year of buying mineral oil by the bucket and to no avail.

I know that the lactulose is supposed to change the ph in the bowels and that works for some. It sounds like it is laden with sugar, but it is not absorbed anywhere else but in the intestines. If I recall, it is to help bring more fluid to the intestines in order to move things along as well.

It did not work for Curran. I still have a huge jug of it in my cabinet. Curran is a special case, though as his bowel issues are chronic and have been going on for over 2 years now. Many on the board have had success with it and then others have not. It is definately worth a try.

We are using it for Owen's constipation and it worked wonders for us.

We used lactulose for quite some time when she was younger...it worked wonders for us. We had tried everything else by that time & nothing else worked. Still have some & use it from time to time.

We LOVE the stuff!!!!!
It was life changing for us. Luckily Eric doesn't need it anymore, but it was truly a life savor.

Eric started eating after he became regular down there. No more weight loss after lactulose (still not gaining enough, but we aren't talking about that)

I hope you have the same luck we did, keep us posted

I have never used it for Frankie, because the Nutramegin makes him go at least 5x a day. However, I took it when I was on bedrest for 6 weeks in the hospital. It takes horrible, but it definitely did the trick. I hope it tastes better for infants than adults...because the taste is absolutely horrid. :o(

Bethany was on this for awhile (Enulose--same thing) when nothing else worked for her constipation. It really does work; however, I'll warn you that it causes some kids to have lots of gas.

I hope you find relief with this! :-D

You can mix it with a little juice before you shoot it down his throat. It should help the taste.

Emma was on it for about a month, and it didn't work for her AT ALL. All she got was crampy and gassy.

The only thing that works for Em is MOM.

Eric experienced gas too, and the GI warned us.
But he also said it will only last for a week or so, and he was right. Within 5 days his gas gat better. It was like once he was regular with the stuff the gas went away too.

I hope the same goes for you and your baby:)
