To make a long story short, Connor has been on Zantac since he was about 3 weeks old. We have tried Prevacid 2times and Prilosec 1 time and both times he got severe gas pains and runny green poop so we took him off and put him back on the Zantac which works somewhat but lately he has been refluxing a lot and has been very fussy. Today his GI told us to try Nexium. Has anyone else had any experience with this drug? I am so reluctant to start him on it because of our experience with the other PPI's! It would be so wonderful if it works but I have my doubts!

DH took Nexium for awhile but switched because it wore off too quickly. My understanding is that it's very similar to Prilosec yet you have to take twice as much to have to same effectiveness.

I put BOTH of my kids on Nexium after talking to an out of state friend who takes her refluxer to a very well known childrens hospital and they ONLY prescribe Nexium, saying it is the BEST reflux med because it helps with reflux as well as helps with digestion...
I have also heard, and been told Nexium is identical to prilosec...the makers of Nexium changed one tiny molecule of prilosec so they could call it the purple pill

My ds did well on Nexium and was on it for a long time..we switched to another PPI though when his reflux flared..he was on 30mg (20am/10pm)
We are now on prevacid and though prevacid seems to be working better at acid control..i think he def has gas (but it has gotten better) plus for us, prevacid seems to wear off and doesn't come close to lasting 12 hrs...I don't know what we are going to do

My 9 mnth old was put on nexium when she was about 7 mnths and was on 20mg for 6 weeks and she was awful..like no reflux meds at all or it caused her major tummy pains because she was up 5-6x at night
She does well on prilosec

How long did u stay on the PPI....for us, besides waiting the 2 weeks to kick in, it seems both kids systems needed to adjust to the meds which took about 3-4 weeks
