What is the thought process in doing a pyloroplasty for DGE?

Maggie had a pylorotomy at 8 weeks because of pyloric stenosis. Because of the surgery she has chronic deudenitis and ulcers in her small intestine and her peds GI still feels she might have DGE. (for some reason they thought noneating Maggie was going to eat some nasty scrabbled eggs for the emptying scan. HAHA We decided to wait a couple months and re-evaulate before tramatizing her with another attempt at the scan so no confirmed DGE)

Not having the surgery obviously wasn't an option for us but seeing what she's going through now BECAUSE of the surgery I don't think I would have it done electively. Am I missing something??

WEll, you don't know what could have been though. Eli didn't have his emptying corrected until he was 2 1/2, I sure wish we would have done it sooner. I would gladly trade what we deal with now with that, he has digestive problems too since the surgery which we are working on finding out slowly, since he is mostly fine. Maggie may have lived those horrible years going through what we went through with Eli, stomach infections from day old food sitting there, rotting food being vomited, sick feeling of feeling full all the time, vomiting 20 times a day, immune problems because of it, sickness.

Does she take any meds for it? Do you believe it could be mild emptying now? Is there something they can do for the duodinitis and ulcers? Poor baby!

I was thinking of it more from DGE caused from nerve damage rather than a tighter than normal pyloris causing the food to stay in the stomach. If that makes any sense...

I feel for you dealing with the extent of Eli's DGE for 2.5 yrs. I dealt with it for 2 months and thought our lives were hell.

Did they end up doing the surgery as planned even though they discovered the liver adhesion?

We tried erythromycin to discover Maggie's allergic to it. Honestly I'm not too concerned about it as long as she continues to thrive. She was upped to the 45mg of prevacid when the Chronic Duodenitis and ulcers were discovered. We're hoping it will reduce the acid enough for the ulcers to heal and the inflamation to go down. If not I don't know what we're going to do. Her GI is pretty stumped with why her esophagus was healing and her small intestine looked like 55 yr old chain smoking alcoholic that eats deep fried food everyday.

Poor Maggie, I hope the meds help! She is soooo cute!

They intended to do a pyloroplasty but when they went in to perform it they found the malformation, they said it looked as though the pylorus had never seperated from the liver completely during development in utero so.... They are hoping that that was all that will need to be done and that it is working right, he is emptying too fast now, but we are hoping it levels out, still much much better than what we were dealing with!

Please keep me posted on Maggie. :???:
