I think that Noah has DGE because of his lack of interest in eating (never seems hungry) and spitting up several hours after eating. I mentioned this to his GI because I wanted an emptying scan done. He told me that since Noah doesnt vomit typically, it would be highly unlikely that he would have stomach emptying issues. Plus since Noah poops every other day was also a good sign that he didnt have slow motility. What do you think? Do any of your little ones have DGE but do not vomit?

Hmmm, I know of some on here who have little ones with DGE and are silent refluxers. Our son had problems with emptying and was a huge puker. About the poop, that is interesting that your doc said that because E didn't have probs pooping and he had DGE and severe vomiting and still managed to poop

Wow, I am suprised your Dr. would use that type of excuse. Noah had very delayed emptying at one time with explosive loose stools and no vomitting at all. Sometimes Dr.s have different resoning and they just pull out the easy excuses to push past the subject. I would push next appointment for some better reasons.

Or, take him to someone who will listen!

I have a son who never really vomitted on a regular basis but has severe dge and has had to have surgery to correct it. He was one to go to bathroom on a regular basis also but would have alot of stomach pain. He has many test done that has shown that he has delays in his stomach and small intestine. I would push your doc to have the study done and if he will not I would go for a second opion.

There are to many docs out there that just push the symptoms aside and wont treat them correctly. You need have a comfort level with your doc and one that will take you seriously and listen to your concerns. If you dont get this with your doc you may need to find one that will meet your needs. I do wish you luck and hope that you are able to get some answers.

My youngest son is a silent refluxer and has been diagnosed with DGE via a milk test last spring. We have not addressed this in the past and are only doing so now as his feeds are still rather inconsistant and overall poor. I really can not help you with the meds as I see our ped at the end of the month to talk about this. Just can tell you that it sounds like Iain, right down to the pooping every other day or so. At one point he did not poop reguarly at all, but that was a lack of intake issue.

Sarah has DGE and she is not a big puker. She will puke but not multiple times a day. I don't know about the stool issue- Sarah used to go only every 3 days. Now she goes every day but I don't know if that is because we added oil to her feeds to increase the calories.

Melanie- I was wondering how you felt about he surgery. I am assuming you had the pyloroplasty. Our GI doc has been recommending this surgery but we are not ready yet. Did you have any problems like dumping syndrome?

Gavin had an upper gi with a small bowel follow through yesterday and it showed he delayed emptying from his stomach and small bowel. This test is not as accurate as an emptying scan, but it gives a general answer that in general it is delayed. It took 3 hours for it to empty. Normal with barrium should be 60-90 minutes according to the radiologist performng the test. He doesn't puke--mostly silent reflux and poops maybe every other day and its usually hard for him (struggles with constipation) but if he takes in more fluids, which is a struggle, he poops more. He also is allergic to the formula he is on and that can make him constipated. He will change today. His intake isn't good but he is comfortable and not in pain like he is just full, which has always been our clue.
