I read the old losec vs prevacid thread as well as another old prilosec thread.

I keep seeing this "only good for two weeks" thing about the liquid suspension. The ped wrote my son's rx for 30 days, and the pharmacy I took it to didn't say anything about needing to only fill two weeks worth at a time. Wr're picking it up today and I'm sure I'll get 30 days.

Has anyone else used a suspension for 30 days after it was made? Did it work? Do I need to call the doc or pharmacy back and ask them about this?

Does anyone know of any info sources that I could present them about it only being good for two weeks, other than this message board? I think the info here is pretty good, but somehow I think they would probably just roll their eyes at me.

Mine was always made in 30-day allotments when Catherine was on Prilosec (months 1-7 of her life). I never noticed a difference on day 15 or subsequent days. Her ped, GI or pharmacist never mentioned it only being good for two weeks. That said, you can also find all kinds of documentation thats says it only does last for two weeks.

Owen is on the Prilosec suspension right now and we refill it every 30 days. No difference here, he does perfectly fine after the 2 week mark.

We insisted that Noah's be filled after we THOUGHT that his reflux was worsening towards the end of the bottle. But, its impossible to tell since he was also gaining and needing increases, etc... Anyways, I decided that it wasn't worth wondering about, and I found a pharmacy that agreed to do it. Walgreens turned me down and acted like I was nuts for even asking, but a local pharmacy was willing. We didn't ever notice any major improvement, but I guess it just felt good knowing that we were doing everything we could to make sure the meds were as good as can be. Good luck!

I got it filled every 2 weeks when we used the suspension--I noticed a big difference when we tried to go longer. I was advised by 2 different pharmacists to re-fill every 2 weeks (these were smaller pharmacies that specialize in making compounds) The big chain pharmicies seemed to not care so we stopped going to them.
