I have been told by my GI NP that even though Aidin is almost 14lbs she should still stay on 7.5mg of Prevacid a day, when her ped said if he thought she needed it, I could increase to 15mg.

Which should I go with and how many mg's was your baby on around 14lbs?

Hi Monica,

My daughter is now four months old and is also a silent refluxer. She was initially put on 7.5 mgs of prevacid - by Thanksgiving she was three months old and about 13 pounds. It is then that we noticed a lot of her acid reflux symptoms were flaring - arching of the back, crying, etc. We were then told to put her on 15 mgs with the dosage split - 1/2 in the morning, 1/2 in the evening. This really worked for us. Prevacid only lasts in a babies system about 12 hours so by splitting the dosage, our daughter continually has it in her system. It has helped tremendously.

Hope this helps! Theresa

Catherine is now 17 lbs and has been on 15mg of Prevacid since she was about 13 lbs. She was never on 7.5mg a day. She was on Prilosec before starting Prevacid.

Where your kids on the powder or solutabs?

Only solutabs, and we've been popping them directly into her mouth since she was about 8 months old.

Zac was on 15 mg powder packets from 3 months (at about 15 lbs?) until about 7 or 8 months (19lbs). Since then, he's been switched to the 15 mg solutabs (half twice a day).

Hmm... Joshua was increased to 30mg of the Prevacid Solutabs at his 4 month appt. He was on 15 mg before that. The dose sounds high but it has helped a lot.

I think Nathan was around 15 - 18 lbs maybe (It's all a blur) when we went from 7.5 mg to 15 mg (solutabs).

Sam is also on a 30 mg dose - 15mg in the am and 15 mg in the pm. I think he was around 16lbs when we switched to this.

So do you guys think that the dosage is different in terms of the pwder vs. the solutabs?

No, the dosage should be the same. Meaning 15 mg of powder = 15 mg of solutab.

I agree - it should all be the same dosage.

I am just wondering since we are just trying new solids and she is nowlearning to sit on her own and can do 360's on her tummy (were are not yet at crawling) and I know all of this aggrivates reflux if we should also be at 15mg a day.

She weighed in at over 15lbs on Friday when she got her monthly RSV shot.

I wonder why her ped and GI don't want a dosage increase?

Anyone heard of this or why?
