I always feed Sam with the pump--slow, 200cc over and hour. As he has not been sleeping great, I have started to give him a few OZ. in the middle of the night--GI wanted more calories anyway. My question is does anyone gravity feed small amounts???? I hate setting up the pump and rinsing the bag after while half asleep.

I just tried 2oz gravity feed and I think it went OK. I did not use the big fat extension tube because I thought it would be too fast, but the reg extension tube seemed too slow.

Hello, no I don't gravity feed small amounts but I gravity feed my son Gaeb about 175 ml super slow about 4 to 5 times a day. Sorry I couldn't help you .He is on Nutren Junior. Rosie

Hi Sara
We do all sorts of amounts in the gravity bag, as we had to return the pump. But if you are only doing a couple of ounces, why not just use the catheter tip syringe. I really like it for small amounts and extra water. It holds 60mls. I don't know how slowly you need to put it in, but I usually do 200 ml over 30-40 minutes with gravity and then any smaller ones with the syringe over about 5 minutes.
Good luck.

We feed Daniel by 60ml syringe at bedtime every night. That way we don't have to haul the pump and pole upstairs and he doesn't have to listen to beeping noises as he's drifting off. But since D can handle fast feeds, we don't have to worry too much about our manual speed.

We used to exclusively use the 60 ml syringe to feed Tucker. We just hooked it up to the extension for his mic-key (the smaller one, not the bolus tube) and controlled how slowly we wanted it to go down by lowering and raising the syringe. Tucker needs it to go down extremely slowly, so I'd let 5 ccs go down every 2 minutes. It was a pain clock watching, but it worked for him great--until his recent retching episodes, now he's back on the pump. I never tried to hook the syringe directly into the mic-key, but I know it comes with a tip to do so. Tucker can't tolerate fast feeds, so that wouldn't have worked for us.
