Samantha finally got her tube last week. She's tolerating it pretty well, has only pulled it out once so far (the first thing we wake up to on New Year's Day!).

However, I don't think it is going well.

She is not taking anymore feeds by mouth. She'll still take her solids but we don't feed her that much solids b/c we don't know if we're overfilling her stomache, since we feed her through the tube. We told the GI nurse, and she was surprised this was happening. We're going in to see the GI doctor tomorrow morning. She's 6 months old now, so just learning solids and can't drink from a sippy cup.

Are there any questions we should ask? What do I do? Aarrghhh!

How often is she fed via NG??? Volume??? The GI should be able to give you how many calories she needs so you can gauge how much solid to give her. But she should know when she is full--I would feed her solids on demand to keep up with her eating skills. Does she take a paci while tube fed??? Are you trying to bottle feed when NG is going, or is is stopped??? From the list of her meds I take it she has a cardiac condition---does she have the energy to bottle/breast feed???? Sorry I can't remember her history. How long do they think she will need this???

Hi and I would have to agree with Amanda about feeding solids. I would feed upon demand and she will tell you when she is full and wont eat anymore. Also the gi doc should tell you what her caloric intake should be so that you can adjust her feeds to meet her needs.

As far as questions just ask about the caloric intake and what her needs should be? I was also wondering how long she will need the feeding tube? The ng tube at times can interfere with there sucking because it is a forgien object and they can feel it. I know with my son when he had his he refused to drink from a bottle. I do wish you luck and hope that things improve soon.
