My qusetion is what is the difference between prevacid and prilosec?

We have tried prilosec and all though were only on it 8 days- the dr advised us stop taking it as it was not beneficial, he had a pretty bad reaction.

An endoscopy has shown that he doesn't have inflammation, the Dr thinks because he has been onmeds for reflux for so long and why zantac is still working for us.

Should I ask for another trial with prevacid or stick with the zantac we are currently using? Zantac has been working but he has been quite bad lately, but he also has an ear infection. I just dont know what to do, the GI appt is in a few weeks and I don't know what to ask for.

Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Rachel

Might want to wait out the ear infection and see how he does. Sam's reflux is always worse with illness. If you think he is still uncomfortable after ear infection has cleared maybe prevacid is worh a try. We have used both--they both work about the same for Sam, but others have found one better than the other--I am sure you will get some more responses.

There is one major difference between Prilosec and Prevacid as far as the capsules go- Prilosec has a milk-based ingredient in it so children with intolerences to milk offen do not do well with Prilosec. Prevacid capsules do not have any milk based ingredients but I believe that the solutabs have a binding agent that contains a milk product.
