My 19 month old dd just recently started taking Prevacid. We tried the capsules sprinkled on food (which she isn't eating), the solutabs mixed with some water (which was too grainy), and the oral suspension powder mixed with water (which is what we are doing now). She doesn't like any of them. The powder actually has some sort of a flavor in it, but she tends to try to spit it out when we give it in the syringe and won't even touch it in the cup. Any ideas of how to get her to take it easier? The Zantac went so well...she actually likes the mint flavor!

Can you just put the solutab in her mouth? It starts to dissolve immediately. My 11mo daughter has been taking them this way for several months now.

Hmm, we used the bite of applesauce method... nothing else worked so not sure... at 19 months he was beginning to comprehend that if he didn't take that bite of applesauce than he didn't get out of bed that morning. It was walked into the room each morning in a spoon and he had to eat it to get out... LOL, might not work for everyone but that was the only way we could get it down him.

I'm with Lesley--Bethy took the solutabs really, really well. They're fruit flavored and dissolve very quickly on the tongue (by the time she thought to spit it out, it had usually dissolved).

We're now on the sprinkles (b/c of the trace milk content in the solutabs) and she still takes it pretty well, but does sometimes gag. I try to distract her as I get that bite into her mouth and it usually works. (She's mesmerized by Elmo, so I have her watch Sesame Street while I give her the spoonful).

Good luck!

We used and still use the spoonful of applesauce method. I can now also put Evan's pill in his mouth and he has learned to swallow it with a sip of something.

Gosh, we do ok with the oral syringe, solutab and a spot of water. Hmmm. How about dissolving the tab in a spoon with a tiny bit of water? I've had to do that a few times and it worked ok... but Ian really likes his meds, so I'm lucky that way.

Good luck... this is hard.

She won't take the Solutabs. So, we started to put the powder in her PediaSure, which she insists on immediately when she wakes up in the morning. She doesn't seem to notice it. Is it ok to mix with that? The package says she needs to take it 30 minutes before eating and mix it with water (in bold letters). She absolutely won't take it mixed with just water. Unfortunately, she is not an applesauce eater. She has a food aversion to just about everything right now. And, now she knows what it is when I open the package so I have to hide and mix it into her PediaSure. :) Amazing what we will do for our kids, huh?
