We were told by the ped to thicken Jeremy's feeds (Nutramigen) with rice cereal 1 teaspoon per oz. Has anyone had success with this? Is 1 teaspoon per oz too much? He takes a lot longer to eat now that we started thickening which may be due to slower flow of thickened formula. Any nipples that worked best with this?

Many of the moms on this site have had great success with thickening. We tried using a thickener, but since it added more texture, it just made things worse. Hopefully one of the others can tell you how they cut the hole in the nipple a bit bigger to make it work.

I had great success with thickening Cady's GoodStart at 1 tbs./every two ounces. But, I've heard others have success with the 1 tsp./every ounce. We didn't start thickening Cady's bottles until she was 7 months, though. How old is your little one?
Which bottle do you use? We've used the Dr. Brown's regular bottles since Cady was 3 months old. Their Y-cuts work the best for cereals. Other bottle manufacturers use x-cuts and they too are designed for thick liquids like formula thickened with rice cereal.
Good luck with it. It helped Cady tremendously.

For us, it took lots of money and time before we found what worked. I agree that Dr. Brown's Y-cuts work better than other brands. We use Dr. Brown's #3's right now, and I food process the cereal first so that it is thin and powdery and goes through easily. I use 1 tsp/ ounce, but sometimes more.
