Just wanted to see if anyone has ever been through a nursing strike.

Mia has been doing well since going a Prevacid a month or so ago. She has been eating well and finally sleeping! Just last week though, she got a cold, and then just as she was getting better, she decided to stop eating for three days. She ate nothing for 12 whole hours one day, and next to nothing for the entire three days. The doctor checked for ear infection, etc. and was dumbfounded. He said just to keep working with her and to not feel bad about giving her a bottle if needed (we tried this a couple of times, but she ended up going back to the breast). She has been better for the last couple of days now, but is still fussy during feedings. Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

Such has been Evan's life for the past 3 1/2 years. Any little virus will make our little GERDlings stop eating it seems. I hope she gets over the cold quickly.

Hi!... I am glad to hear that Mia is doing well finally. When we last spoke, both of our Mia's were doing poorly! Mine is not better unfortunately, but I was planning to ask her doc for prevacid at her next appointment. Funny, our 2 kids are soo similar- I hope mine will do as well as yours.

Maiya had a nursing strike= I think it is important to not force them to avoid any aversion. What i did, is i tricked her by giving a bottle instead of the breast for 2 feeds on 2 successive days. It worked, and she took to the breast again.

Good luck and please stay in touch

I can totally sympathize with everyone. Frankie had a real bad cold for about 10 days, on top of teething. He has been a mess. Only today is he eating his normal size feeding....For a while I thought the reflux alone was getting worse, but when you factor in all the other "good" stuff it just makes the reflux 10x more horrible. Hopefully, he's feeling better and starting to get back to normal. Hope everything works out!

I always notice that when Noah has a cold, he gets more upset with the bottle since when he does try to suck, he can't breath (due to stuffy nose). So, he ends up furious and will boycott feeds as well. I try to clear him out as much as possible so he can eat, but sometimes those darn colds are impossible to combat.:(

Thanks everyone for your posts. It's good to hear from others. I tend to get panicky about things and it's good to hear that others have had the same experiences.

Johanne, if Maiya hasn't tried the Prevacid yet, maybe this will be what finally helps. I know I was very hesitant at first to start the meds because they haven't been tested on little ones, but after seeing the results, I have no regrets. I truly hope that Maiya will improve like Mia has. She is still uncomfortable at times, and still has bad days, but the peaceful days are getting more and more frequent, which is all we can really hope for!
