I'm just curious how much solids and oz. of milk your gerdlings eat per day. I feal like all I am doing is forcing food into Noah ALL DAY LONG. He sleep feeds 24 oz of milk and I can push 6 oz of solids into him. And he barely weighs more than a wet noodle!:(

How much does a wet noodle weigh? :toothy10:

Catherine drinks about 18-20oz of formula a day. She is offered 3 meals of 3-4oz of something (plain stage 2 fruit or veggie) or oatmeal. She usually eats all her breakfast (oatmeal) and good portion of her lunch and none (not more than a bite or two before pitching an unholy fit!) of her dinner. In all, she probably has 6-7oz of solids per day.

She is 11mo and 17 lbs.

Allie will be 4 months next week and takes in about 20 ounces a day. She weighs 12 pounds 1 oz and has another weight check tomorrow. Usually, we can't get more than 2 oz down her at a time, and it's a fight to get that down. However, in the middle of the night, she will usually eat 4 oz no problem, and is pretty calm. Weird?

Not weird at all. Many of our kidlets are more receptive to feedings when they're drowsy or actually asleep. They're more relaxed and less attuned to any discomfort they may be feeling. My 11mo still has one or two night feeds. If she didn't, she'd likely waste away.

24 ouces and 6 ounces of solids sounds pretty good to me. Right now, my Noah is doing maybe 10-15 ounces of formula/milk mixture plus 8-10 ounces of solids. He is gaining quickly! Its not easy. My entire day revolves around manipulating the food into him. Can you try and increase the solids? I noticed that when I started to get in more solids, his weight really went up--at least he looks like he's gained a lot--haven't had a weight check for a while.

My daughter gets an average of 20oz a day and at least 4oz of solids. She's been eating 20oz of formula for at least a month and she is gaining... i think 24oz and 6oz of solids sounds good to me too!!

Hope that helps!

When you say 4 oz of solids - how do you measure that? We have only recently started Allie on rice cereal but she's not too keen on that either so she doesn't get it every day. I never know how much to make b/c I never know if she'll eat 5 bites or no bites. I know it's a little too early for jar food, right?

I am going to talk to her ped about this at the weight check today.

This site is very helpful. Thanks everyone.

A stage 2 jar is 4oz. A stage 1 jar is 2oz. The volume of cereal varies depending on how thick or thin it's mixed. 1/4 cup is 2oz, which is approximately 4 tablespoons (mixed, not cereal flakes).

Christyn--

Yes, its too early for baby food, but cereal is fine. At 4 months, its really just for practice. Put maybe 1 tbsp. of rice cereal in a bowl, then add formula to it until it is the right consistency. At first, I made it really soupy. If she finishes that, make more next time. At 4 months, the ounces of cereal she eats really isn't that important. Just offer it every day to get her accustomed to the spoon.

Sarah has been really slow to take solids. she takes about 20-23 ounces of milk fortified to 27cal/oz and maybe 2-4 tbsp of cereal. I think her delayed emptying is giving her some trouble so that she is not hungry for solids.

Emma gets anywhere from 22-26 oz of formula a day. Usually around 24. She refuses any babyfood off a spoon completely, but will eat a number of finger foods and table foods. Her weight gain has been around a pound a month. The GI is not concerned that she won't eat babyfood as long as she can feed herself and drinks enough formula to gain weight, (he said that formula is better for her nutritionally anyway). Today she had some diary-free buttered waffle, several pieces of avacado, dairy-free buttered toast, Beechnut peach dices, Beechnut carrot dices, a pizza crust, and a cracker.

Emma also still takes one night feed, which is included in the ounces mentioned above.
