I currently give Maya Prevacid solutabs 15mg in the morning and I am wondering whether to split it in half. Maya has good feeds now when she is sleepy and in the morning, but feeds worse in the afternoon and refluxes more then. Do you think splitting it will help? If so are there any tips on splitting the pill as I crumbled it the last time I tried.
Thanks

Catherine started out taking half a solutab (7.5mg) morning and evening, but about two months ago I started giving her a whole one at bedtime, which is when her symptoms seem their worst. Typically, solutabs are split in half, especially for young infants.
You ought to just be able to snap the solutab in half (or pretty close to it!) with your fingers without it crumbling. For me, it crumbled more when I used a pill cutter.
So do you recommend saving it for when the symptoms are worst i.e for the afternoon if Maya is worst then?

Often infants do better with split or even multiple doses rather than once a day dosing due to the fact that they metabolize medications faster than adults.

We split Joshua's pill into 2 doses - one in the a.m., one in the p.m.
I use a sharp kitchen knife to cut the pills.
Also, he has never taken well to having the pill put in his mouth so I put it in a soup spoon with some water and disolve it. Then, I pour it in his mouth. Sounds funny but he takes it right down!

No, the recommended dosing is every 12 hours if you're giving a half dose at a time. Can you time giving Maya half so it's pretty close to the time when her symptoms worsen and still get in the other half? Maybe 11:00am and 11:00pm? We dosed at 6:00am and 6:00pm. Now, I pop a whole one in at 7:00pm, right before Catherine goes to bed.
Do you have any advice on how best to store the other half of the pill as well?

Noah takes a 1/2 solutab three times per day. I've been breaking it with my fingers, then I toss the other half in a little take'n'toss in the kitchen cabinet where I keep Noah's other meds. That way, if I go somewhere, I can just snap a lid on and take it with me.
I've experimented with different times with the meds, but I have never seen much difference so far. I'm thinking of trying a 1/2 in the am, and a whole one before bed, though, to see if it helps with his sleep.

We actually tried the solutab but found the capsule is much more effective for Frank. I usually give the whole dose at dinner time. He gets zantac at 12am and 12 pm and Prevacid at about 530-600. Depending on nap schedule. I didn't know you could split the solutab in half. Maybe I'll try that in the future!
