Hi! I am posting this question for my sister. Her son (22 mos) has been on Periactin for about 6 mos now, and it has helped tremendously. He has gained weight and eats well, and so my sister and the GI agreed to try to wean him off of it. Immediately she could tell a difference in his appetite as he is refusing food again. She put him back on it, but wants to know about anyone else's experiences.

Has anyone had success weaning off Periactin? Did the child have a poor appetite at first? How long were they on it before weaning?

Thanks in advance!

I have always heard that appetite enhancement effect of Periactin usually does not last very long. I am surprised to hear that it has been working as long as 6 months for him.

Thanks, Pam. I have heard that it has temporary effects also, and I am so happy that it has worked well for him for so long, too. The GI actually had them dose for five days, and then not give it for another two, and that worked well to increase his appetite over the 6 mos.

Now she is just confused as to whether the poor appetite will be long term with any future attempt at weaning. Hmmmm. :???:
