Okay, so I slowed down Tavin's feeds to try and resolve his poo problem, but now I have noticed that he is making the reflux motions. He is only 5 days post op. Is this normal? Do you think this is a habit whenever his tummy gets full? Or is this considered retching?

I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday!!!

What kind of reflux motions are you talking about? If he seems to be swallowing and uncomfortable it may just be because he can feel the wrap. It takes a long time to get used to the wrap. After Elis surgery I went to an adult board for people who have had the surgery and they said they could feel it, and it was awful until they became accustomed to it. Each time food would pass they would gag on it because they just weren't used to it. It took a good 6 weeks for them to adjust and just begin to see benefits from the surgery.

Also, the tummy is about half the size it once was so when it gets full it will put pressure on the wrap.

And, of course, they are used to gagging and choking feeling like they are going to vomit so it is a hard transition.

Another thing that could cause it is that as it heals and swells and it will cause more rather than less discomfort.

Hang in there! It will take a while for him to adjust.:xmas1:

Sam will do the retching thing when he gets too much volume or if he gets it too fast, but it did not start right away with him. he might need some more time to adjust.

I guess I am worrying too much! I am so afraid something is going to go wrong. He has no energy to play, crawl or stand up. He just wants to lay on me.

He is only 5 days post op so his body is working hard to repair itself. Its a major surgery and will take time and adjustments. Hang in there!

He'll get better soon, it is a major surgery and he needs at least 6 weeks to 12 weeks to heal completly. Take his feeds really slow and hold him as much as he wants to be held.
