After 24 hours on soy, Catherine is pooping marbles. Is this what you get with soy? Will she go back to "normal" (pasty consistency) once her system gets used to soy?

Will she go back to "normal" (pasty consistency) once her system gets used to soy? LaurensMommy 12-23-2005, 08:36 AM That is exactly what we used to get when Lauren was on soy. We referred to them as "deer terds". hehehehe lisaann 12-23-2005, 10:50 AM Noah is on some soy too. But he also gets half breast milk. I've noticed since I've increased the amount of soy that his poop is more formed. I've started giving him a couple ounces of prunes per day, and it has made a big improvement. Gerber prunes mixed with pears are actually pretty tasty. Leigh 12-26-2005, 03:48 PM I am pretty sure that we had that when Iain was on soy as well, lovely little rounded poops like marbles. Will have to check his baby book for sure, but it was around our soy formula time. We did not stay on soy for long as the ped and then our ped allergist moved us over to nutramigen nearly right away. How is her poop now? Still the same? sixdogssixcats 12-26-2005, 03:55 PM It varies from "modeling clay" to golf balls with golf ball being more prevalent. I'm shoveling oatmeal into her to try to counteract with minimal success. Her eczema is also getting worse on her cheeks. On the other hand .... the shrieking episodes have diminished measurably! I think we'll stick with soy until her GI appt on the 5th. Leigh 12-26-2005, 05:33 PM Less shrieking? Whatever will you do with all that newfound hearing?! I guess it is a significant decrease in them? No words can tell you how happy I am that this is working for you and how sorry I am that it was not discovered earlier. I wonder about the eczema. Walker had such a horrible case of it and we needed to use cremes until he was nearly two years old. They told me it was citrus acid and I know it was not (as he was not on it at the time! ) He just reacted to cereals and pretty much all of them. Oatmeal is supposed to be so very tame for kiddos but maybe Catherine is extra sensitive. What about beechnut? I have never used it so I have no idea regarding it, but maybe it would help? I know you are trying to counteract the constipation but maybe beechnut is ok for this, too? Really, I do not know. Will be interesting to see what the GI says in January.:xmas1: sixdogssixcats 12-26-2005, 05:53 PM Leigh, She's eaten oatmeal for several months now (and always had red, ruddy, rough cheeks) so there may be something there, but her cheeks have gotten considerably rougher since we started soy. The surface of the skin looks dry and has hairline cracks. Leigh 12-27-2005, 08:42 PM Ouch. I recall how Walker had that and needed his steriod cremes forever to clear it up. He would smile and his face would crack, but it was on one side only. Really, I thought it was from drooling, but apparently not. Is beechnut a possibilty? sixdogssixcats 12-27-2005, 08:57 PM What difference would Beechnut make if she still drinks soy formula????? She's always had Earth's Best cereal, which is also soy free. Noah's Mom 12-27-2005, 10:12 PM We never had any problems with constipation when Noah was put on soy several months ago, but now we do...on milk-based formulas.:???: jojo 12-29-2005, 06:02 PM Maiya had rough cheeks but I thought it was the cold weather! I did half soy half breast milk for 2 feeds, and she did not poop for 10 days!!! So yes, I found that we have problems with soy here too! Igloochic 01-02-2006, 02:11 AM Soy was a nightmare for us, but I did cure the constipation by giving him one half teaspoon of brownsugar in one ounce water, three times a day (this is the dose for a small baby). He screamed trying to poop on soy, and all the allergies were also present. Oh yes, and the eczema as well :( I killed the soy test on day four despite my ped's wishes that he suffer for a couple of weeks on it. Leigh 01-02-2006, 10:39 PM What difference would Beechnut make if she still drinks soy formula????? She's always had Earth's Best cereal, which is also soy free. Sorry, but I have absolutely no experience with Beechnut cereal and was just wondering if it would be a consideration for you. I really have never seen it so I do not know anything much about it except that some Mom's here swear by it. adarobayo 01-11-2006, 01:31 PM Hi All, My daughter is on soy milk now and she also gets soy yogurt everyday. She really pushes hard to get stuff out and they are like a clay consistancy. I also give Gabriella oatmeal every morning and I was told by some one that has eczema that oatmeal will aggrevate the eczema. Gabby has a small patch on her hand. Also aquaphore has helped allot too. Ada Leigh 01-11-2006, 07:20 PM What is aquaphore? Oatmeal aggravated Walker's "citrus acid rash" he had on his face for several months. Funny thing is that he was only being fed formula when the ped diagnosed the sensitivity to citrus. (not the same ped I have now, go figure why I changed...) When solids started, oatmeal did exacerbate it and so did some of his jars of food, but I honestly can not recall which ones anymore. Oatmeal I will not forget, though. adarobayo 01-12-2006, 02:48 PM Aquaphor is cream that is used for really dry skin. It's more like a paste but it helps with the dryness of the eczema. |
