Samantha is getting her NG tube tomorrow. Mixed feelings.

How do you sleep your NG tube baby? In the hospital when she was sick, her bed was a little elevated, and they put a blanket roll under her butt - in a U shape - so she wouldn't slide down or roll around either.

I feel bad to limit her mobility (especially b/c she'll have it for at least 3 months or so), but I don't want her rolling around with it either!

Any suggestions?

When Daniel was very tiny, we just coiled up the tube and looped the coil through the cap to keep things put. Later, we taped it to his pajamas. Even later, we used a safety pin to fasten the coil to his shoulder so the tube wouldn't get in the way when he was crawling or playing or endanger him while he slept.

Except for when he was very ill, we did not have to feed him while he slept. But when we had to, I tried to check him often. (Besides, you have to get up anyway to put more formula in the bag.) Will you be doing overnight feeds?

Good luck. The NG tube isn't fun or easy, but it does feel good to know they're finally getting the nutrition they need without a big fight.
