Frequently, babies and children with reflux or GERD begin to have food and/or feeding aversions. The severity of these aversions can range from being a little picky sometimes to downright refusing all foods and requiring nourishment via feeding tubes. The following information is provided to help give you a general idea of what is considered normal eating habits and normal feeding development.

What excellent and thorough information, Becky! Hopefully that will save us hours of responses. ;) Just a couple of thoughts, perhaps we should mention that egg whites and whole milk should not be introduced until 12 months, and peanut butter not until 2 years (or later if there's a family history of peanut allergies).

Oh...and I had to chuckle that you remembered to add pop tarts to the list. ;)

I would strongly advise not to feed an 8 month old raw carrots, celery sticks or dried fruits. They are choking hazzards and should be one of the last types of foods offered. I would pass that entire line of suggestions and move onto the 9 month old suggestions which would be more appropriate. Roni I recommend that you delete that line of suggestions.

OMGosh...Good point, Pam. Thanks! Perhaps we could also add in what the different stages of baby food are for the many parents who make their own baby food (ie, 5 or 6 months is pureed vegetables, followed by pureed fruits; 7 or 8 months is pureed meat and alternates (beans, peas, lentils, etc., and egg yolks (not whites!)). The fruit and veggie pieces are usually introduced starting at 10 months. Also, iron-enriched infant cereal (rice first) is introduced at 4 months here for formula fed kids (and often for bf ones too).

I didn't even look at it, just copied what Becky sent from the feeding therapist. I am wondering if that's not a mistake though b/c now that I do look at it, there are two lines for 8 months, one that sounds appropriate and the second one.

OK, ladies, Toomey's list did indeed include that stuff for eight months, but here's what I missed  (because it was under the hard munchable description in another location):
***The goal with hard munchables is oral exploration only, not consumption yet.
Sorry! :(
