Maya as you can see from my previous post is having trouble with Priolosec adminstration. She vomits up a Prilosec suspension right away and if I admister the capsules with orange juice she also vomits it up and I have to get the granules from off her neck and clothers and force it down her. Naturally my concern its

a) this routine is pretty stressful
b) the drug is less likely to work if I am forcing vomited granules down her.

I am thinking about asking my GI to switch her to the Prevacid solutab as they appear easier to adminster by dissolving on the tongue. Would you recommend them. Also how many times a day do you have your PPI dosage once a day, twice or three times. I heard that PPIs are metabolised very quickly in babies so that more than once a day is more effective. If I get enough good recommendations, I will challenge my GI on this. In the UK they are quite in favour of Prilosec as firstly it is available in generic form and very cheap about $15 per month and secondly they think it is the most tried and tested PPI.

What is the dosing on Prevacid. Maya is on 15mg Prilosec a day which I believe is the maximum dosage for her weight which is 13lb.

Thanks in advance for your help

We LOVE Prevacid solutabs. Catherine (11mo, 17 lbs) takes one 15mg solutab per day. We started out splitting in it half, morning and bedtime, but lately I've been giving her a whole one at bedtime, and she seems fine with it.

Austin has been taking the Prevacid solutab since he was 5 weeks. As far as giving the med I love it, I break it in half and just get it wet and then stick it in his cheek. He smacks his lips and seems to enjoy it and he has never choked, refused it, or threw it up. However, he is still refusing feeds and when he does eat he's still arching and turning his head around like the exorcist so I'm not sure that the Prevacid is controlling his reflux.

Hope this helps some.

Prevacid was a life-saver for Nathan also. He was on 15 mg solutab split between am and pm doses. I think he was around 18 lbs when we went from 7.5 to 15 mg a day.

We recently switched from prilosec to prevacid and I love it. It is easier to give, and I do not need to get a compound mixed every 2 weeks--less trips to the pharmacy! We do 15mg solutab every evening.

We give the solutabs and we love them. We dissolve on his tongue, half 15mg twice a day then wash it down w/about 2ml of water.

Prevacid is our life saving drug. The solutabs are the ONLY medication Mag will take without a fight and puking.

Prevacid was a lifesavor for us. Cady was at 19.5 lbs. and 7 mos. old when she started them and she was getting 15 mg. in the morning up until now. We're starting to wean her off, since she has completely stopped puking and doesn't appear to be refluxing at all. She is now at 24.5 lbs. and 11 mos. and is taking 7.5 mg in the morning.

They are so, so easy to give. I just pop it in her mouth and she sucks on it while I change her diaper and get her dressed in the AM and after she's clean and dressed, I give her a sip of water and we're done with the medicine for the day. This is way better than when she was on Pepcid and Reglan 3x's a day...not to mention that those two drugs barely worked for her by 7 mos. So glad we switched to the Solutabs.

Thanks everyone for your great response for this. This site it so supportive and it is great to get everyone's experience. My husband spoke to the GI on the phone today. (He is calmer than me and gets good results with him). The GI wanted to give Maya Prevacid suspension and my husband based on your recommendations insisted on the Solutabs.

Maya is very troublesome at the moment and is only having 11oz of formula a day and has not been introduced to solids so I am at my whits end with her! He is also prescribing Duocal (I don't know if you have this in the US). Apparently this will sweeten the formula and provide a calory boost. Anyway I am out to get the new prescription. I hope this will be the turning point....

Oh, good! I am so glad the first dose was easy. That's great that your hubby was able to convince the doc to do the solutabs. The suspension didn't work very well for my kiddo. I hope you see a difference soon!

It's so great that the doc prescribed the Solutabs. They're so easy to give.

We've had good luck with Prevacid too! His dose was just increased to 30mg a day! He didn't like the tablets in his mouth and he was pretty young when we started it. I put the tablet in a soup spoon and add a bit of water. Then, I just pour it in his mouth. He likes the strawberry flavor and drinks it right down!

Good luck with everything!!
