Although I am new to this site, I am please to announce that my son's issues with GERD are nearly gone thanks to probiotics!! :D
My son had been to countless doctors and specialists regarding his GERD and was still throwing up 4-8 times a day and could not be laid down for any amount of time. He was loosing weight and was 12 lbs 8 oz at 8 months. Zantac only made him act VERY strange (repetitive motions).
A speech therapist who works with children and diet introduced us to cultured veggies and coconut keifer. His vomiting stopped immediately!! All other symptoms have nearly ceased as well and we are looking forword to him gaining weight. Why cultured veggies and coconut keifer? Cultured veggies and coconut keifer contain high amounts of good (probiotic) bacteria that are neccessary for the body to function. If the intestinal flora is not in balance, then the body cannot heal itself and function properly. I do not have a background in nutrition, I am just a mother that cares and has seen a significant change in my child. There are great amounts of research out there regarding probiotics and their benefit to intestinal health. On the website it is mentioned that certian foods aggrivate GERD. It is not a coincidence that certain foods bother, it is a clear link that the digestive tract is not functioning properly.
Many times medication can have an adverse effect with the bacteria in the gut. I urge parents to check out more information regarding probitoics. There is a wealth of information out there.

There are several posts on the board about probiotics already. A simple search for the word probiotics will bring up that info.
