Don't throw out that box of packing peanuts. Hide a toy in it and have your child dig through the peanuts to find it. (But not if your child will try to eat them.)

Also, playdough is great for working on strength and sensory issues as well. Kneading it is apparently great for strengthening grip needed for grasping pencils, etc. Someone told me that making jello and hiding things in it is wonderful, too, but Curran has some real issues with that. Somewhere in this house I have a book that I bought from a teacher's store that had great suggestions for play for this very thing. Once I hunt it up I will post it.
