After reading someone else's post about DGE and reglan now I am very confused. Austin was given a prescription for reglan and zantac for his reflux but after reading that post it sounds more like reglan is for DGE not just reflux. I haven't given him the reglan but he is on the zantac. Now I am wondering if since I did let the ped know his spitting up can occur sometimes 2-3 hours after eating his bottle (and he eats every 3-4 hours) if he maybe suspects DGE but is not telling me. I didn't even know about DGE until reading it on this site the last couple of days. This whole thing is all so confusing but I've only been dealing with this stuff for 3 weeks since Austin is only a month old. And I have to admit before I had to deal with it with him I was one of those naive people who thought infant reflux was just spitting and throwing up and was no big deal  . Boy was I wrong!

I think we were all one of those people once upon a time!
About the Reglan, could be that your ped suspected DGE. Or it could be that she just gave the Reglan to help treat the reflux. It is common for doctors to give motility meds like Reglan in order to empty the stomache more quickly, which helps to reduce the refluxing.
If your little guy does have emptying issues, though, the Reglan should help either way.

Alot of docs will prescribe reglan along with reflux meds even if there is not dge. The reason behind this is to help the food move quicker through the system so that it doesnt sit there and make the reflux worse. Reading your post though sounds like your little one may have some delayed gastric emptying issues. I do hope the med works and makes them feel better.

yes, alot of docs prescribe it to empty the tummy faster to help lesson reflux episodes.

I think you should probably request a gastric emptying to be done. Reglan can have some side effects which I hope your doctor has told you to watch for. Also, it also helps to have a diagnosis. I know it made me feel much better. I got tired of hearing it's just acid reflux and he'll outgrow it. lol
