Just curious...I see children on here who are on Zantac, but it's usually in conjunction with another medication. I posted my daughter's history in the introductions, but she was changed to Zantac from Prevacid today (after almost 3 weeks on Prevacid, she's miserable). She was on Zantac for about 7 months alone, the first 7 months, but I don't know how much it helped, if at all. She's on a hefty dose now (2 ml 3x day). I am just curious if anyone is happy with just the Zantac and has seen good results.

Another Leigh? Welcome! :D

Yes, many children are on zantac alone and doing fine. Iain was not able to swallow the prevacid when he was first diagnosed at 14 months of age, so we went with zantac alone and it made a big difference for him. Once his eating skills progressed we were asked to try prevacid again nearly 6 months later and it was fantastic! Prevacid has made a HUGE difference for us.

Back in April when we did manage to get some of the prevacid beads into him by some miracle it caused horrific gas and liquid green poops. This is a side effect that can happen, so maybe your wee one is not able to tolerate the prevacid. That does not mean that you can not try another one or take a break from the prevacid and try again at a later point if it is still needed. Maybe you need to run with both meds as we do. We give prevacid in the morning and zantac before dinner.

Keep us posted!

Hi Leigh,

My son was on zantac since 6 months and at about 11 months I started weaning him off it and this is when he becaume a lot worse. We were put on zoton(in Australia I think it is equivalent of your prevacid)- For 2 weeks he was the worst he ever was so I put him back on zantac and he was noticably better straight away.

We just had an endoscopy done and there is no inflammation (probably because he has been on zantac so long) and the GI said that this is probably why the zoton hasn't done anything because it is better for the inflamed osophegous pain and zantac is better for just reducing the acid.

Does that make sense? I hope so. If zantac works use it- Parker is on 2ml 2x per day, and weighs 9.5kg

My dauhter is 3 1/2 months old and has only been on zantac for about 6 weeks for silent reflux. So far it has worked well and I hope it keeps working.

Hi Leigh, Welcome! :)

My daughter was on Prevacid for about a month in the beginning but it was wearing off too soon and she was still in pain. We switched to Zantac at about 2 months and she has been on it and doing well (as long as the dose is matched to her weight) since.

Hope that helps! :)

Connor is 4 months old and has been on Zantac since he was 1 month old. It has worked pretty well for us. We tried Prevacid and Prilosec but unfortunately he has horrible gastro issues on both of them so we had to go back to the Zantac. Just the past couple of weeks his reflux seems bad but he has also been sick so that could be why. For the most part the Zantac has worked well for him! He is on 1ml 4 times per day.

Maggie was fine on Zantac until she started solid foods.

We started out with zantac and it worked well, but made Alexys like a zombie. Then we went to prevacid for 7 months, but it made Alexys constipated towards the end so we went back to just zantac again. Now she has diarrhea from something totally different anyway, and seems to still be in pain on just the zantac, so we are again trying prevacid...zantac doesnt seem to do it alone for us anymore.
