As you can see from the questions section today, we have got Maya to take neocate after her going mad when we tried it on Sunday. We thickened it with an infant milk thickener as suggested to help hold it down. She is only taking 3oz at a time of Neocate. In the past week, prior to Neocate she took around 3-4 oz of regular formula per feed and put on no weight at all which has made me worried. Prior this she had only put on a small amount of weight and has dropped from the 75% percentile in weight to the 25% percentile.

Has anyone else had these weight gain issues with a silent refluxer and have they seen improvement in Neocate in terms of the volume of formula eaten and the weight gained?

We had constant weight loss and maintenance problems with our little puker. Until after his second birthday, he could only manage up to 2 oz. at a time. For a while, he hovered at the 3rd to 5th percentiles for weight, while his height was above the 97th. Yes, he was just skin, bones and ribs. Not knowing what we were dealing with, we didn't experiment much at all with formulas, and the doctors (out of shere ignorance) never suggested it. I hope you find one that works.

I'm glad Maya's taking the Neocate now! The thickener must have done the trick? Noah was in the upper percentiles and dropped to around 30, but our doctors have never been too worried, because he gains, just not as fast as he used to. For the first couple months he was home, he drank like a champ, and as his reflux has gotten worse, he has slowed down substantially. If you flip through my photo albums, it is obvious when Noah stopped eating well. He went from a little chucker to a rather slim baby (not skinny, just smaller). If she continues to drop, I'm sure it will need to be addressed. We've been fortunate that Noah has never lost any weight, besides just a couple ounces here and there in August, which was a reflux month from hell. Maybe she'll end up loving this new formula so much that she gains quickly! I hope so! Keep us posted!

before neocate amelia was eating 2-3oz per feeding, sometimes as little as 1.5oz. we switched to neocate in august & with in a month she was eating MUCH larger amounts. also since she's been on neocate she has never fallen off the weight charts again.
