It seems like so many of us are looking for new food ideas for our kids. Anyone want to share ideas?

Here is one that Beechnut sent me today:

Baby Banana Milkshake

6 ounces of milk (or formula)
1 jar Beech-Nut Stage 2 Chiquita® Bananas
1/8 to ¼ cup Beech-Nut Rice Cereal
2 ice cubes
1 teaspoon of sugar (optional)

Mix the milk and the Stage 2 Chiquita Bananas in a blender. Add the cereal slowly until it reaches your desired consistency. Add ice cubes, and sugar if desired, and blend until cold.

Makes one serving.

Also, the whole milk cottage cheese tossed in a blender with fresh fruit is yummy too.

Other ideas, anyone?

I've been adding bananas to Catherine's bottles for months now. It's a good way to get in extra calories. I've tried other fruits, but they don't flow through #2 Avent nipples like the bananas do. She turned up her nose at blueberry, though. Must not be a tasty combo with formula, lol!

Here's one you probably SHOULD NOT try LoL :
I tried to put some cheerios in Zac's oatmeal and let them get soggy. He hated the lumps w/the pureed stuff...of course

This is one my mom made for me when I was little...I make Emma's using pear, (due to constipation issues). I boil or bake the pear and then mash it.

Banana Breadsticks

1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs
1 cup mashed banana
1 3/4 cups flour (white, whole wheat, or a combination)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Combine ingredients and stir only until smooth. Pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour or until firmly set. Cool, remove from pan, and cut into sticks. Spread sticks out on a cookie sheet and bake at 150 degrees F for 1 hour or longer until the sticks are hard and crunchy.

Note to self - no blueberries in bottles, and no soggy cheerio oatmeal.

Amanda - those banana breadsticks sound soooo good. Can't wait to try! :D

They are good...kind of bland in my opinion, but Emma likes them. They're easy too......that's the best part.

DH calls them her "dog biscuits".

That DOES sound good, amanda! I'm writing it down...One question, you say two eggs...the whole egg or just the yolks? We were told not to give egg whites until a year...what do you guys think?

I think if the egg is cooked, in combination with other things, it is okay. I think they are just not supposed to have egg white by itself.

Someone check this though...I could be wrong.

Amanda... your banana sticks sound delicious. I'll have to try to make them this weekend for Lauren.

I'm sorry that I have no recipes. :( I think my daughter's deprived. She only gets baby foods. Seriously, I'd love to make her home made food, but I have absolutely no time.

Sandy, Lauren isn't the only one deprived, Cady hasn't had any homemade stuff like this at all. I just do not have the time either. Don't feel bad.

That banana sticks recipe sounds so good, Amanda. I bet that'd be something that Cady would actually eat. I'm jotting this recipe down...if by some miraculous chance, I find time, this is the next recipe I will try. Thanks for recommending it.

That was my thought when I lasted posted too, but I didn't want to say it just in case I was wrong. But think of bread...It has the whole egg baked in, as do many other little pastries, and probably crackers too.

For those worried about eggs I found some subs that we might be able to use in this recipe!

EGG SUBSTITUTES

ONE (1) egg equals any one of the following:

1)2 Tbs. flour
½ tsp. oil
½ tsp. baking powder
2 Tbs. liquid

2)2 Tbs. water
1 Tbs. oil
½ tsp. baking powder

3)1 Tbs. flaxseed* (ground in coffee mill)
3 Tbs. warm water

4)1 Tbs. gelatin or fruit pectin
3 Tbs. warm water

I hope these options are acceptable. I thnk I will be using #2
