How many total hours do your babies get? I'm just wondering what would be normal for an 8 mos. old?

Catherine sleeps about 8 hours A DAY (not just at night) so use that as the bottom end of your scale, lol!

Noah sleeps 9-12 hours per day on good days. Roughly 7-9 of that is during night time hours, but he wakes a twice on average.

Poor Lesley...maybe we should have hid this topic from you! Catherine sleeping any better lately?

From 8-12 months, the average is 13 to 14 hrs a day (this is from most baby/parenting websites and books I have read). This is just an average, though, since some babies sleep much less than that and do fine (like Catherine? ).

:D

So far, so good! LOL

I'm not sure what the normal is, but I think that Sheila is pretty close, around 14 hrs. I have the exact opposite problem, my baby sleeps WAY too much....I am not bragging, it actually worries me most of the time. Our ped is starting to get concerned about it too and says if she doesnt start cutting out some sleep somewhere that we will have to have her evaluated. Sorry Lesley

That's really why I asked Amy. Somedays it worries me how much Lauren does sleep. Like today she was up at 6:30 and slept a total of 1.25 hrs. during the day and went to bed at 9:00 tonight. Other days, we're lucky if she's not tired after being awake for 2 hrs.

yesterday, she slept 16 hrs. Seriously, not bragging!

Sounds a little like Cady. She sleeps from 7:15 P.M. to 7:30 A.M., then takes a two hour nap usually from 9 or 9:30 A.M., and another one-hour nap at 3:00 P.M. and another hour nap at 5:00 P.M. So, that's 16 hours. Too much? I'm not going to complain, because I had a nonsleeper with my first daughter, so I take advantage of it with this one. Kaylin's still not a good sleeper, so I really hope Cady takes this sleeping thing way into her childhood.

Daniel sleeps about 10 hours a night then take a two or three hour nap = 12 or 13 hours total. I don't think that's much different from when we stopped the sleep-eating and he fell into a two-nap-a-day pattern. I guess he's about right on target when it comes to sleeping.

Some kids just need more sleep than others. My oldest regularly slept, at 8 mos old, about 12 hours at night, plus 2 2-hour naps. My middle kiddo slept about 10 hours at night and 2 1-2 hour naps. Ian... well... he sleeps about 12 hours at night, with a nighttime feed stuck in there, and takes 1 or 2 1-2 hour naps most of the time. He is the worst napper of the bunch.

At 5 years old... oldest was still taking a 2 hour nap! Middle hasn't napped since age 4. We'll see what Ian does.

And adults... well... dh is good with 7 or 8 hours. I am at my best if I get about 9-10 hours. Everyone's different.

So, are you ladies telling me that I shouldn't worry about it then? Just take advantage of the days she sleeps so much?

You ladies have a way about making someone feel better. That's why I love you girls so much!! :D

Yes! Enjoy every minute of it! Unless she still seems therargic despite 16 hrs sleep, I would take advantage. :D

I dont think I would worry about it as long as she is okay when she is awake....ALexys still acts sleepy ALL the time that is the only real reason I am concerned.....dont get me wrong I am glad she sleeps but I understand why you worry about it.

A typical day for Alexys is in bed by 7pm, sleeps until 7am, then back down at 9am and sleeps until 12 noon, then back down at 2pm and sleeps until 5pm. And lately she has been actually taking another half hour nap between 5pm and 7pm. I dont think she should still be tired after all that.

I am hoping it is just the novelty of walking/running etc that is wearing her out, although I kind of know it isnt because she has slept this much since about 5 months.

Amy,

Too bad we can't combine Alexys and Catherine and split the difference somehow!

Sandy

Love every minute of it. That's what I would do. :D

Amy

I didn't realize Alexys was sleeping THAT much. I hope everything is okay! Maybe she's just worn our from all her activity, like you said. :?

Dang, AMY! Alexys is STILL sleeping that much? I remember when she was doing that around the time she was going through all that hospitalization but didn't realize she's been doing it still. Hopefully she's just a sleepy kid and that's all!

Sandy, so funny you posted this as this moring I was thinking to post a thread just like this! I'm also interested in what everyone else is doing.

Zac is in bed from 730ish-630ish (usually is up to nurse around 5)
He usually naps one hour to one and a half hours in the morning and half hour to an hour in the afternoon. Sooo I guess that's right around 13 hours depending on the day. I've also taken away a half hour during that 11 hour night sleep because he usually wakes and goes back to sleep after nursing or just on his own.

Every once in a while I'll get a good 2 hour nap in the morning and maybe in the afternoon but that's not the norm. On rare occassions I can get a 2 1/2 hour nap or close to 3! (I'll shut up now  )

A very very good day looks like this...

7-8am up
10am sleep (only if i lay down with her)
12pm up
2pm sleep
3-4pm up
8pm sleep
8:30pm up
10-11pm bed for night

Now she wakes up periodically through all of this but I just have to give her her pacifier and shhhh her and maybe rocker her back to sleep.

Normal days she will sleep for 30mins every couple hours... cat naps all day.

Most days she gets a total of 13 hours I would think. I guess she's pretty normal!!!

amelia gets about 8 at night & then about 1-3 hours worth of naps during the day. depends on what's going on. she fights sleep so if anything "interesting" is happening she won't really nap.

Emma's typical sleep "average" is around 13 hours.....but one day it is around 12, the next 14, the next 13, the next 14, the next 11.....she's all over the place.

Typical:

Bedtime....8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with one nightfeed sometimes

Nap around 10:30....1 hour to 1 1/2 hours...sometimes longer/shorter

Nap 3:00....1 hour to 1 1/2 hours...sometimes longer/shorter

However...last night she wouldn't go to sleep b/c, (I found out a few hours later)....she had a major poop explosion at 10 p.m. I gave her another bath...it was EVERYWHERE......

She went to sleep at 11. So, yesterday she only got 11 hours.

This morning, she got up at 7:30. Then, took a 2 1/2 hour nap...and she's been napping now for an hour. So, she's making up for it.....

HOWEVER, before Emma's tubes she had nightwaking constantly and only got two or three 30 minute naps in each day. It sucked. :(

My boys sleep from 6:30pm until around 6am, with several epsidoes of waking in the night and they have 2 one hour sleeps during the day.. so that's roughly 13-14 hours. They have just hit 11 months!!
