My daughter Ashlee who will be 3 in Jan. Has Delayed gastric empty (DGE). She was in the hospital for 3 days last week with a gastric intestinal bug. she lost 11 oz in less then 4 days when she had just gotten her weight up. So her Peds Dr. put her in the hospital. While we were there her surgeon came down and said that she wants to do the pyloroplasty. once shes gets better. Shes goin to do it open so she can feel the size and make it a half size bigger. she also has narrowin of her esophagus. Which was found in Oct. 2005. Was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the pyloroplasty and anything else that you think may help. As of tuesday Ash gainned 2 of the 11 oz lost in a week.. just happy she didnt lose anymore. She know weighs 26 lbs 7 oz. Thanks everyone for ur help..

Hi,
Our son had DGE too. He is now 3... I have a few Qs for you. Does she take any meds for it? Does she have symptoms of reflux as well?
The pyloroplasty can cause dumping sydrome... this is where the stomach empties too fast rather than too slow and can cause abdominal pain, lethargy, and diarrhea, our son experienced this a few times after surgery until he straightened out.... :D

I have a son who has dge and had the pylorplasty done 5yrs ago. Today he still has major problems with his dge and is on meds for it so for us it really didnt make a big difference for him. I was wondering though if your child has had any testing done to see how bad her dge is. My son has had several gastric emptying studies and has had motiltiy studies done on his esophagus, stomach and intestines. Finally I was wondering if your child has been on any meds for the dge?

Shes had every stomach test they can think of dun and a few of them dun twice. Shes even had a head scan. Shes been on the meds but none of them worked. she has the dge plus narrowin in her esophagus. she throws up alot when she does. It take her 3 hours or longer to digest anything. and 99 % of the time its still not digested when she does throw up.

Our son was like that as well.... have you heard of dumping sydrome and looked into it? Or, read more about the surgery? We ended up not having it when the surgeon went in because they found his pyloric muscle was kinked due to being attached with bands to his liver  So, they corrected it and he emptys fine now, has had some dumping issues, which are common after stomach surgeries.

Hello, just wanted to let you know that I replied via email on this subject. The pyloraplasty can be a life saver for certain kids and detrimental to others. My son had 0% gastric emptying after a 3 hours scan so his was 100% necessary for the most part besides the dumping at the beginning he faired well for a while, the down side is our son has recently been diagnosed with bile reflux on top of his GERD so the bile can at times come all the way up & it's pretty gnarly. This just started happening about 6 months ago so we were problem free for a couple of years. The pyloraplasty didn't cause it to happen it has just more helped the bile have it's way
