Have any of you had this problem? Tucker has some skin granulation under the button for his g-tube. (He doesn't have mic-key yet). One of the nurses told me that the doctor would probably use silver nitrate on it, but that it's "gross" when it turns black and falls off. We go to the doctor today, so I'll see what he says, I was just wondering if any of you had had this issue and what was done for your child.

Tucker is doing great post g-tube/fundo surgery. He is finally in the double digits--10 lbs 4-1/2 ounces! He will be 8 months old tomorrow....it's been a long journey and every ounce (or 1/2 an ounce) is cause for celebration. He definitely gains better with the tube since he's not burning all those calories fighting us while trying to feed him by mouth. Now if he would just eat better by mouth, we'd be on the home stretch. He's still only taking about an ounce or so of formula from a bottle.

Ya, Shae used to get that before they put her button in. Once they switched from foley to button though it hasn't come back. I would use silver nitrate on it myself a little bit but was worried I was hurting her so never got rid of it all. When they put her under for the button switch the surgeon got it all and it hasn't come back. Thankfully. I don't remember it to be that gross coming off, it was gross when it was on there though. Good luck.

We also had issues before Daniel got his button. I'm not sure if it was actually skin granulation, but it was definitely some sort of irritation. I think it happened because the long tube pulled so much. If we tucked it in his diaper, we got irritation at the top of the hole; if we threw it over his shoulder, it was at the bottom of the hole. We finally settled on shoulder during the day, diaper at night.

When will Tucker get his button? D's was changed after only four or five weeks, but he has a genie button.

Congrats on the weight gain!

When Max got his G tube it was a MIC-KEY style button. I was really worried about granulation tissue because I had read a lot about it and the thought of burning it off with silver nitrate really scared me. I read somewhere that some parents prevented the granulation by putting gauze around the button. So that's what we did but Max got granulation tissue anyway. We used silver nitrate and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The tissue kind of goes black and rubs off after a few days. It didn't seem to bother him at all.

When we saw our surgeon a couple months later he said they don't usually recommend leaving gauze on. So after that we stopped putting gauze on and the granulation tissue never returned.

We currently have a Cook style GJ and Max's site still is granulation tissue free and looks pretty good.
