What would be the signs of this in ... say ... an almost 10mo infant? Perhaps waking and crying for 10-15 seconds every 45-60 minutes all freakin' night long??? I've been awake for the better part of 4 days now, and eBay is starting to get addicting.

This is from Dr. Sear's website....does Catherine snore? It said snoring is one of the symptoms.....
Watch your child sleep. If he has periods of sleep apnea – stretches of 10 to 15 seconds where he doesn't breath, followed by an intense catch-up breath – report this to your doctor.Sleep apnea and snoring at night may also be due to enlarged tonsils and/or adenoids.During the day, the tonsils do not compromise the airway. But at night the air passages relax and narrow, requiring more effort to force the air to move through them faster. This is what produces the snoring noise.
Sleep apnea interferes with a child's overall growth and well-being. Children alternate between light and deep sleep, and when their airway becomes obstructed, they often awaken startled from a lack of air. This causes an adrenaline rush and revs up the child's nervous system at night, interfering with sleep.

No, she doesn't snore, but not all people with sleep apnea snore. Most do, but not all. Especially children. I've been doing some research, too, and I'm convinced she has sleep apnea. I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV. :director:
The most common causes in infancy are prematurity (immature nervous system) and swollen adenoids and/or tonsils. Removal of the adenoids and/or tonsils almost always results in a cure if they were the cause. Symptoms other than snoring include fragmented sleep and poor growth.
We may be addresing several issues by removing Catherine's adenoids. Definitely going to take this up with her ENT next week.

It definitely sounds like she does have that!
I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV.
So, that's why you get so little sleep!

Noah was doing this for the past week or so until we got him on antibiotics, so I assume it had something to do with his ears. Sounds like something to call the doctor about, though.
I had my adnoids and tonsils removed about 8 years ago, and it made a drastic difference in how many times I got sick per year. No more tonsilitis, either!

Lesley... I wonder if it is an age thing?? The boys have started this waking and crying business too, and I am soooo tired. Last night was the first night it hasn't happened (well until 4am that is) for about 3 weeks. I have been up 5-6 times every ight and it's driving me nuts.
Ooooh bad girl for getting onto eBay.... it is addictive... hope you're not spending too much money!!!! LMAO!!!!!

Hmmm, maybe you are on to something with the apnea. Especially with the relationship to her other issues. Will doc prescribe a temporary trial with a monitor?
On the other hand, just as Sarah said, it could be developmental. Between 8-11 mos is when most babies develop separation anxiety. It may not even be present during the day, but nights can be horrible. Nathan had 2 periods of about 3 weeks where he was up crying hysterically for about 20 minutes every hour or two.
