Hi -

We just had to start our son on Alimentum a week ago tomorrow. He was gassy, constipated, just not tolerating SOY and doc thought he was allergic. 3 month old

So now his poop is either mucousy and thin or just watery. I know you can get some funny stools on Alimentum, but watery? He is stooling 4 times per day now and it is interfereing with his sleep! I hate going in in the middle of the night to see a crying baby with his eyes closed and smelling a poopy diaper! He barely sleeps as it is, I don't need this!

SO how long with this last? We do have an appt this afternoon with the doc but I love to hear others experiences.

Thanks so much

Meg

Not sure.. :?: ..Emma gets constipated frequently, even on Alimentum. We're currently working with our Ped. GI to see what is going on with her. Let us know what your doctor says....

Lauren was on Alimentum briefly and then Nutramigen (same as Alimentum) for 3 mos. During that time, she was having hard poops, never runny or watery like the drs. said they would be. Hope the dr. can help you, as none of us like changing those smelly diapers in the middle of the night. It's amazing that we put them on right.

Amanda... I love the new pic of EMMA. She is such a cutie.

Thanks guys -

So Sandy, your doctor told you they would be runny or watery? So this is normal? Because my doc didnt say anything. Not that he didn't try, now that I think of it I probably interrupted him in the middle of his 'what to expect' speech. LOL

Sam's poop is on the watery side with Alimentium--which I will take over constipation any day which we were dealing with before alimentium.

Yes Meg, that's what our dr. told us. This is the reason why hubby and I debated putting her on it. Did we want it coming out from the top (spitting up) or the bottom (diarrhea)? We opted for the latter, however, it didn't stop or even help the spitting up. She's now on Neocate and seems to be doing better.

Yes! Nathan's poops were watery, green, swampy, disgusting on Alimentum, and doctor said it was normal.

OH MY GOD! Swampy is the perfect description! Yea, doctor said it is normal. I asked him for something to prevent him from going at night and disturbing his sleep. He laughed.

Thanks everyone for making me feel better. I actually met a mom in the doctors office who has a 14 month old who went through the same thing. We were comisserating. I never met someone IRL who went through all this. It was cool, if you KWIM. I didn't feel so alone. Misery loves company??

when amelia was on nutram we used to joke "i smell dead people" when she would poop. i had forgot how bad it would smell. her stools were also very soft & often, prob 3-4 a day, now she's 1-2 a day.
