What are the odds that the fundo, just an hour after surgery did NOT work?? This is so hard.. I don't know if she is having her reflux episodes, OR if they are her reaction to the pain that she feels. But she keeps doing her episodes that look JUST like reflu, she will wimper, tighten up her face, move her head, sometiems stick out her bottom lip, and this morning, I actually heard her swallowing during it!! I talked to the surgeon and he said its most likely not reflux, although he said he did a loose one (UGH) but maybe there is mucus ABOVE the nissen that is bothering her??

Also.. she had a reaction to her like 5th dose of Nubain last night.. weird, but all of a sudden, she desated and they had to "bag" her.. scared the poop out of me. So she is now just getting tylenol suppsositories.

By the way, lol, Kira had her major surgeries on Thursday, which included a G-tube and fundo wrap! :)

I know nothing about the surgeries, but I hope everything works out. I'm sure someone will post a response for you. Sorry.

I just wanted to say that your daughter is an absolute DOLL and I love the one of her sleeping nestled in all the blankets. She's beautiful.

We just had the surgery Wednesday. Hannah did some of those things but it seemed to be pain related(from the surgery itself, not the reflux)
I am so sorry. Maybe she needs something better for pain?Hannah had morphine and T-3, Also we asked for simethicone and it helped.
If you really think she is having a problem keep asking! They don't always listen the 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd time. Plus talk to the nurses. They were great advocates for us.
Good luck! I hope she feels better soon!

Sounds like it may be pain related. Give her some more time to recover and see how she does. How does she do with her feeds--that will be the test.

Sam had a reaction to his pain meds and had to re re-intubated 3 days after surgery--that was no fun. It also was the first night I went home to sleep--boy did I feel bad.

It does happen... That being said it probably is just her getting used to the wrap, they can feel the difference and it takes a while. Keep on keeping us posted and let us know of any more concerns or more concerns about this.

Our son definitely still refluxes but it is managable in all the other areas it was affecting him. It has been a huge blessing for him! Hang in there!

It does sound like it could be related to pain. I know that it hurt my kids to even swallow their own spit after the surgery. If it does seem to continue I would question the docs again. I do hope that things improve quickly.

Thanks for the responses. I am positive that it IS reflux now! She has been doing her NORMAL reflux episodes all day/night just like before. They come on, then go away, not as a pain that would linger. You can even hear the liquid come up and her swallow. I am so pissed! I asked the surgeon in pre-op to do a tight one, he later told me her did a loose one!?? Anyway, my heart is broken that I have to put her through this again!! Oh and she is also gagging like she wants to hurl, so I know the fundo IS in there, but is doing NOTHING for the silent small amounts that do come up. Kira was never a vomiter anyway, she would vomit about once a week. Ugh.. I am just so sad and angry right now!

I would defintely call the surgeon and the GI, our surgeon came highly recommended and heads the department at UCLA, he said the trick of the trade with this surgery is getting the wrap just right, you don't want it too tight. Most good surgeons only perform the fundo for reasons other than reflux, that is, when reflux is spilling over into other areas and causing more problems than the reflux in itself or of course failure to thrive.

I also wanted to mention that the wrap could be too tight and the reason she is having problems is because it is not making it past the wrap, our son had this problem and had to have a dialation. Or, still it could be the swollen new wrap causing her discomfort. It took a long time for E to get used to it, 6 weeks. She may start wretching as well, so watch for that.

Keep bugging the docs so they know she is having issues.

Hang in there, the first weeks are awful, it will start to get better!
