Well we've been on the mineral oil down to one teaspoon a day and it seems to be the ONLY remedy that has actually worked!!! He's FINALLY been having normal poops since we started this (after 4 months of torture!) Our appt. is Friday w/the GI and the pediatrician said it may be that his whole intestinal process is slow and that could possibly be causing the reflux aswell....the food not leaving the stomache quick enough...???
I guess that would make sense...we'll hopefully have some answers after friday.

We've speculated about the same thing for Daniel. We know he has problems pooping, and slow digestion explains why he could puke hours after eating. So why would he be interested in eating more when he's already stuffed?

yep...makes sense...zac is still puking up lunch just before dinner!

Makes sense, Sara. Nathan does the same thing. Do you think they might put him on a motility med?

I am so pleased to hear that the mineral oil is helping Sara. Good luck with your appt. My doc is not concerned at all about the puking breakfast just before lunch thing... maybe I need to ask again. I wore stewed peaches at around 1pm- that is 5 hours after Matthew had had it for breakfast, and after his lunch.... eeewwwww.

I know that Iain has DGE as a result of his milk scan, yet nothing has ever been addressed over it. They were so busy just trying to get him to intake, so it went by the wayside.

If he does have DGE, then it is as Becky said. If he is stuffed and things are not moving, then he will not eat as well.

Sarah, I would definately talk to your ped about the boys again. 5 hours after a meal is a bit much. Yuckers.

I look forward to hearing how the visit goes for Zac. Don't take any guff, and ask for timelines. It is great to hear that the mineral oil is working, but it is only an aid and they do become dependant on it after awhile.

Great to hear that the mineral oil is helping him along. I hope they can help you on Friday at his appointment. Would make sense to me too if things move slower than he won't eat as much because he is still full and of course he would still throw it up hours after eating. Good luck.

We tried a few things for motility -- Reglan for about four weeks right after the Upper GI. It didn't help one bit, but luckily D also didn't have any bad side affects. Then, after showing my ped a photo of how much D puked into a bib just as we were starting his next meal, we tried Erythromycin, but it just made his stomach feel worse, so I stopped. It's so frustrating to strongly suspect motility issues but not have any good way to deal with it.

That's what is odd...he never turns down food and acts as if he's starving all day...eats until *I* tell him he's finished. However, he continues to spit up his food HOURS after eating.

I wish Emma was that way. :( Emma never acts hungry....except in the middle of the night!

Sarah... I'm glad to hear the mineral oil is working for you. Lauren also throws up lunch before dinner, this is why the ped suggested she may have DGE. She was on erythromycin for a short period of time with no success. I read that some children do good on Reglan, but I won't put Lauren on it due to the possible side effects.

Let us know what the GI suggests, as I would like to know also. I don't think it is healthy for a child to maintain food in their systems for so long.
