View Full Version : Length of time on meds
Leigh 11-01-2005, 11:16 PM I really do not know how to poll this, but I am just wondering how long people have been on the GERD meds. For instance, if you have been on zantac for more than 6 months, prevacid for more than 6 months, etc.
Please post what med and how long you have been on it. If other meds have been tried, then post those, too.
Thanks!
Leigh 11-01-2005, 11:18 PM I might as well start it! :P
Iain has been on zantac for nearly 7 months now and prevacid for less than a month. Curran has had zantac on and off for nearly 3 months and just started prevacid today.
OwensMom 11-02-2005, 05:35 AM Owen has been on Zantac for a little over 4 months and just was switched to Prilosec 2 days ago.
Forgot to add that he was also on Reglan from 7weeks old until he was almost 4months old.
sixdogssixcats 11-02-2005, 05:42 AM From two weeks of age until 7 months, Catherine was on Prilosec, Carafate and Bethanecol. Then we switched to Prevacid solutabs purely from a convenience perspective and weaned her off the other two. Plus antibiotics pretty much continuously during her whole 9 1/2 months.
KaitlynsMom 11-02-2005, 07:40 AM Kaitlyn was on Prevacid for 1 month and has been on Zantac now for 2.5 months.
CadysMommy 11-02-2005, 07:44 AM Cady was on Pepcid from 4 weeks to 7 months, Reglan from 4 months to 7 months, then Prevacid from 7 months to current.
So, Pepcid for 6 months with Reglan added for 3 months, and Prevacid so far for 3 months.
Nathan'sMommy 11-02-2005, 09:46 AM Nathan was on Zantac from about 4 weeks to 10 weeks. During that time, he was also put on Reglan, Carafate, and Mylanta. We then switched to Prevacid suspension, which didn't improve things much. We then switched to Prevacid solutabs and erythromycin which he stayed on for a few months. He is now on solutabs only.
I was looking back on a medicine chart I made up to keep me sane. At one point, he was on Prevacid, Reglan, Carafate, Nystatin (for thrush), and antibiotics. I think we were dosing him every 2 hrs throughout then day and night! Argggg
EmmasMommy 11-02-2005, 01:33 PM I was looking back on a medicine chart I made up to keep me sane. At one point, he was on Prevacid, Reglan, Carafate, Nystatin (for thrush), and antibiotics. I think we were dosing him every 2 hrs throughout then day and night! Argggg
I know the feeling. :( Emma was put on Axid when she was 7 days old. She was on Axid from February to May, and then she's been on Prevacid from June until present. Her first few months she was also on Nystatin, Diflucan, ear and eye drops, and several rounds of antibiotics for ear infections.
So, my answer for meds for reflux is 8 months. Looks like we'll be on them for awhile too. I'm hoping to switch to Prilosec b/c the Prevacid isn't working anymore. :?
Janette 11-02-2005, 01:43 PM Evan has been on Losec and Domperidone for 24 months.
Becky in NM 11-02-2005, 03:21 PM Zantac: 2 weeks
Prevacid: 6 months
Prilosec: 5 months
Zantac: on and off for 4 months
Leigh 11-02-2005, 05:39 PM Interesting. I am just wondering if prevacid "times out" like zantac does. Also, I do not know how long the boys can be on the prevacid. Seems like everyone has had quite a run at meds, though.
Iain is also taking flovent and has ventolin if needed. We did try out singulaire this summer and it was great, so I may ask to go back to it if flovent is not doing the trick. Plus, I hate usuing steroids. We have bought barrels of antibiotics as well. Sure does seem to go with GERD territory. Maybe they should just give you an antibiotic with each prevacid re-fill? That would be a great linking of products!
Minnie 11-02-2005, 06:09 PM Well one more week and it'll be a year. WOW! I never really thought of that one. But I still polled for over 6 months cus it sounded better. LOL Plus he was off it for 6 weeks. That counts. Right?
Oh, and Eric takes zantac
Our tries with prilosec, reglan, maalox, and others weren't long enough to count.
sarahh 11-02-2005, 08:05 PM Both of the boys were on infant gaviscon for 3 months, Matthew has been on prilosec since around 2 months of age.... and is still on it. We have treid several times to get him off it with no success.
Zantac didn't work for us.
Noah's Mom 11-03-2005, 02:48 PM Zantac for 2-3 weeks, but Noah was only getting worse.
Prilosec for 3+ months, lots of dose increases, but it seems to help.
Aaronsmommy 12-26-2005, 06:33 PM my son was placed on prepulsid at 4 with little result. He was placed on losec and metaclopromide at 7 and is still on them 5 years later. He is 12
scarlet 12-26-2005, 07:30 PM Parker Zantac 14 months, trialled zoton a PPI for two weeks NOT GOOD.
