View Full Version : Gripe Water?
PrincessMom 10-11-2005, 10:29 AM Has anyone used this to help settle the tummy? I found quite a few web sites that have it, and there are different brands, but if I could control Sarah's horrible gas, I think she's sleep much better. It wakes her up at night and she cries when it gets bad. (screams is more like it.)
I did put a call into her pediatrician (man, I feel like I am driving him nuts with questions, even though I know it's what I should do) and am waiting for a call back. It's a "natural" type thing though and I think he'll say no just because of this. I just didn't know how it would affect her medication, so I thought I'd better call on it.
Just wondering if anyone else has used this?
Noah's Mom 10-11-2005, 10:47 AM Never used it, but I feel the same way about bothering the pediatrician. I'm sure when they get my messages they say something like, "oh god, its maggie AGAIN. is she crazy?!?"
PrincessMom 10-11-2005, 11:20 AM LOL, glad I'm not alone in feeling funny calling the ped. office. There is one nurse who is just...not nice, too, and I got her today.
I keep hearing all these great things about Gripe Water, but with it being all natural, and with Sarah being on Reglan and Prilosec, I'm hesitant. But it it'll help her bad gas and fussies, I'd like to try it. The web site just says to not give it within 2 hours of other meds. That would work, I'd just give it before bed.
Nathan'sMommy 10-11-2005, 11:26 AM Hi! We used gripe water for Nathan's first couple months until we diagnosed reflux. It didn't help him all that much, but I think it was his problem wasn't gas or constipation, but reflux. Definitely try it!!! We used Baby Bliss, which has no alcohol or sugar, and we got it on the internet (but they sell it in a lot of health stores). I brought it in to the ped, and after he read the ingredients, he gave us the go-ahead!
Totally relate to having to call the ped... I hate grouchy nurses!
lucyinaz 10-11-2005, 12:58 PM I haven't used gripe water, but know folks who swear by it. It can't hurt to try it.
mommyto2redheads 10-11-2005, 02:03 PM We have used Gripe water for Noah for oh...maybe 1 week now or so...and I SWEAR by it! I love it and it is my new best friend. He hates taking it, but he feels so much better. He has colic real bad and it is like a Godsend. I would recommend ANY to try it...BTW my ped is the one that recommended it to me. It is worth a try!

I have used Gripe Water (I think it's by a company called Baby's Bliss) for my 11 month old daughter--started using it when she was a newie. I have nothing but good things to say. When she's gassy it really seems to calm her down. I have to say that I have used it myself for the same problem and have had great results! The only downside is that it has a strong "black licorice" flavor that Bethany doesn't like too much.
Good luck--I hope it works for you!
PS--I feel like I'm the mom my pediatrician dreads talking to on the phone, too. I try to remember that it's his job to answer my questions...and that one day, hopefully, my daughter will thank me for being so proactive!
kimber 10-12-2005, 03:27 PM Hi
I tried it with my ds first and I SWEAR is made him worse..then I tried it again with dd
I even ordered from a website colicease.com because a mom on another reflux board said her Gi HIGHLy rec it
Well, I really didn't notice a difference either way
BUT I heard good things about a cheaper copy cat alternative..they sell it at local shoprites, grocery stores and it is called tummy soothers..I found it in the baby isle...something like that!
Check it out...may save you some $$ and help
Kim
Leigh 10-12-2005, 06:00 PM Gripe water worked for our other two kids, but not for Iain (our worst refluxer). We used simethicone drops called "Oval" and it worked like a charm. You can get them from the pharmacy OTC.
